What is the idea of dream content according to Sigmund Freud?

Sigmund Freud

Dream content

Sigmund Freud explained the concept of dream content  which is the process of transforming the latent content of a dream into the manifest content of that. It includes four  processes of dream that will  shape the dreams of  people that they often  have every night.

Explanation:

The four dream processes examined by Sigmund Freud, as explained below:

1)Condensation

2)Displacement

3)Secondary revision

4)Considerations of representation

Condensation means to when a number of dream elements involving themes, images, figures, or thoughts are combined into one. It can occur when two images merge with one another.

For example, if an image of a building that someone sees in their dream is a school but is also their house, that would be condensation.

Displacement is when an idea in a dream is replaced by another related idea . Apart from this, it also occurs when the emotional intensity of one idea is transferred to another.

For example, if someone has a strained relationship with his father, his father may be represented as someone like the president or a king with whom they have a conflict in the dream.

Secondary revision meant the application of conscious thought processes to the dream material. Further, it involves making sense of a dream.

For example, if someone dreams about being attacked by a smurf, they may think it is just because they watched a smurf movie earlier in the day rather than thinking of the dream's actual meaning or reality.

The last one is,considerations of representation involve transforming thoughts into visual elements or images.

For example, if a person dreamed that their best friend or one of relative does not have a mouth, they might realize that they sometimes wish their friend would not talk so much.

Additional information:

The latent content means to the symbolic meaning of a dream that lies behind the literal content of the dream. The uncovered meaning of dreams played a significant role in Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory.

He also believed that portraying the hidden meaning of a dream into conscious awareness of a person  could relieve psychological distress.
