Giriraj is situated on the Kedar peak of the Himalayas, the highest of the twelve Jyotirlinga of the country, Kedareshwar Jyotirlinga. Mountains on three sides surround Kedarnath Dham and the temple. On one side is about 22 thousand feet high Kedarnath, on the other side is 21 thousand 600 feet high Bhat kind, and on the third side, there is 22 thousand 700 feet high Bharat Kund. There are three mountains and the confluence of five rivers here- Mandakini, Madhu Ganga, Kshir Ganga, Saraswati, and Swarna Gauri. Some of these rivers no longer exist, but the Mandakini, a tributary of the Alaknanda, still exists today. On the banks of this is Kedareshwar Dham. Here in winter, there is tremendous water in heavy snow and rain. It is the largest Shiva temple in Uttarakhand, built by joining huge boulders of cut stones. These boulders are brown in color. The temple is built on a platform about 6 feet high. Its sanctum is relatively ancient, which is believed to be around the 80th century. In the sanctum sanc to rum of the temple, there are four strong stone pillars at the four corners near the ardha, through which the circumambulation takes place. The Ardha, which is square, is poly on the inside and is relatively new. The hall is huge and grand. Its roof rests on four huge stone pillars. The huge roof is made of a single stone. There are eight male-proof sculptures in the caves, which are very artistic. Kedarnath Temple is 85 feet high, 187 feet long, and 80 feet wide. Its walls are 12 feet thick and are made of powerful stones. The temple is erected on a 6 feet high platform. Surprisingly, the temple would have been carved by bringing such heavy stones to such a height. Especially how this giant roof was placed on the pillars. Interlocking techniques have been used to connect the stones. This strength and technology have managed to keep the temple standing in the middle of the river.
