History of Mahakaleshwar Temple.
Many wonderful temples in India have their own beliefs and customs. But the most famous temple among all is the Mahakal Temple of Ujjain, located in Madhya Pradesh. Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling is one of the main Shiva temples of Hindus and is also one of the twelve Jyotirlinga of Shiva. It is also considered the holiest place of Lord Shiva. This temple is situated on the bank of Rudra Sagar Sarovar.
It is said that the presiding deity, Lord Shiva, resides in this linga in the form of Swayambhu, this linga has its own immense powers, and this linga was established with the help of mantra-shakti. Mahakal Temple of Ujjain is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga of Baba Mahakaleshwar built in the 6th century. The present temple was built in 1736 by Mr. Peshwa Baji Rao and Mr. Rana Peshwa bajirao Shinde Maharaj, General of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. After this, Shrinath Maha daji Shinde Maharaj and Shriman Maharani Bajya bayi Raje Shinde also did many changes and repairs. The idol made in Mahakaleshwar is also often called Dakshinamurti, as it is a south-facing idol.
It was chosen as one of the 12 Jyotirlinga according to the Shivendra tradition. It is said that this temple of Nagchandreshwar is opened for one day only on the day of Nag Panchami in a year. This temple has a total of five stories, one of which is also under the ground. This temple is built in a sacred garden, which is surrounded by huge walls near the lake. Along with this, brass lamps have also been installed in the lower holy place.
Like other temples, here also, the offerings of God are given to the devotees. The peak of the temple of Mahakaleshwar is built so that we see it touching the sky; it is a miracle in itself. The Mahakal temple of Ujjain also dominates the city's life and reflects the traditional Hindu traditions even in the present times. On the day of Maha Shivratri, a huge festival is organized near the temple, and Lord Shiva is worshiped till late in the night. Shri Swapan Ishwar Mahadev Temple also comes within the limits of Mahakaleshwar temple, where devotees worship Shiva in the form of Mahakal and wish him to fulfill their dreams.

1. Why is the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga of Ujjain called Mahakal? Kaal has two meanings in the scriptures, first time and second death. It is believed that this is the same place where the whole world's time was fixed in ancient times. According to mythology, the Shivling of Lord Shiva was established here by King Chandrasen and Gopa Balak.
2. Fresh ashes are offered. You must have seen ashes in many temples, but in the Mahakal of Ujjain, Lord Mahakal is adorned with the ashes of fresh dead. And to attend the Bhasma Aarti of Mahakal, booking has to be done in advance.
3.Incomplete journey for the darshan of Juna Mahakal – It is also considered necessary to visit Juna Mahakal by visiting the temple of Mahakal. Otherwise, the darshan of Mahakal is considered incomplete. According to some stories, the Mughals tried to destroy Juna Mahakal. Fearing the Mughals, Juna Mahakal was replaced by another Shivling by the temple priests.
4.Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling is divided into three sections. There are three sections of Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling, out of which the lower section is Mahakaleshwar, the middle section is Omkareshwar, and the upper section has Shri Nagchandreshwar temple. Of these, Nagchandreshwar Shivling can be visited once a year on the day of Nag Panchami. 5.In the sanctum of Mahakal, there is a south-facing Shivling, which is present with Mata Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Kartikeya; there is also a Nandi lamp which is always lit.
6.The important thing related to the Mahakal of Ujjain is that no royal or royal person sitting here can spend the night. It is believed that there was no king in Ujjain after Vikramaditya. It is believed that only one king can stay in Ujjain, and Mahakal is considered to be the king here so that no other king can stay here. Because of this, no king has spent the night here since the time of Raja Bhoj. And even today, the king, the Chief Minister, and the Prime Minister believe in this practice and do not spend the night here.
