When you enter any new field of science, you will almost always find yourself with a surprisingly new language of technical terms to learn before conversing with experts. This is certainly true in terms of terms describing the universe and terms describing commercial devices in astronomy, the telescope being the most prevalent. So to distance ourselves from the first base, let us define some keywords related to binoculars so that you can talk to them more intelligently.
The first area of expertise in telescopes is related to the type of telescopes people use. Three designs of telescopes most people use are the refractor, the reflector and the ******** cosgrain telescope.
* The refracting telescope uses a convex lens to focus light on the eye.
* Reflective binoculars have a concave lens that is bent inwards. It uses mirrors to focus the image you see at the end.
* ************* The Casgrain Telescope uses the built-in system of mirrors to capture the image you want to see.
* A binoculars telescope uses a set of mounted and synchronized binoculars so that your view of the sky is 3-D.
Beyond the basic types, other terms refer to parts of the telescope or the science behind how the telescope works.
* Collimation is a term used to describe how finely tuned a telescope is to what you see. You want your telescope to have a good collision so that you do not get a false picture of the celestial body.
* Aperture is a fancy word for telling how big the lens of your telescope is. But this is an important term because the aperture of the lens is crucial to keep your telescope powerful. Magnification has nothing to do with it, it's all in the aperture.
* Focuser is the housing that holds the telescope's IPS or what you see. The focus must be consistent and in good repair if you want to have an image that you can trust.
* Mount and tack. These two words refer to the tripod on which your telescope sits. The mount is the original tripod and wedge is the device that allows you to attach the binoculars to the mount. There are mounts and wedges to assist you in a better viewing session and to keep your expensive telescope safe from falls.
* The Altazimuth mount represents the tripod's tripod, which holds the device and makes it useful during star gauging sessions. Altazimuth allows the mouth binoculars to move horizontally (azimuth) and vertically. That way you have full scope to see objects up close or directly above the horizon.
* The meaning of coma is different from the meaning we used and that is a good thing. A coma is an area that is blurred at the outer edges of your view by binoculars. How big the coma is and how much it interferes with your vision is crucial to the impact of your telescope.
* Planisphere. A fancy word for a star chart. It is more or less a detailed map of where everything in the universe is and how to find the star you want to study by removing the known stars.
* In the bar. This refers to a special type of lens that you can purchase to enhance the magnification of your telescope.
