On a spring morning, I remind my children of the joy of waiting for a new life. Usually they will see a flower or two that has passed from the ground to the land above it. What starts as a plant or a lamp is transformed by the natural forces of change. Within us lies awareness, self-awareness, the ability to grow beyond what we appear to be. At all times, we are challenged by others and circumstances to create a life beyond our present state of life. Our good progress requires that we be willing to let go of what we know to be unknown to us. You and I are part of a Created Order that we see around us, and we are participants in Creating Order in what we have been given to care for. With this in mind, let us turn to the way our soul can be defined in the elements that make up a flower:
- Earth.
The soil grows, protects, and produces flowers. Inside the womb of the earth, life grows long before we see it. Just because we cannot see a flower planted on the ground, does not mean that life was not created. To be a full participant in our world means to be fully connected and focused on the given world.
- Stem
The trunk begins to grow on the ground below and in the sky above. This part of the flower is the connecting element of the plant. As human beings, we are in this world without being a full part of it. This creates holiness in our lives. It is our unique ability to live and grow in a way that no one has ever been, is present, or will ever succeed.
- History.
When in full bloom, the flower is the light of a lifetime. The light and color emanating from it create life. Note the next time you look at the flower how it affects you. You can see your heart is open and full of joy. Or, you may realize more power and clarity in your vision of being blessed with greater beauty.
- The Spirit of History.
The spirit of the flower is the life force that comes with it. The theme of the flower associated with your spirit. This part of you opens from the inside out into ONE with the spirit of the flower. The same power runs within you and within you. Like a flower, you begin to enlighten your soul from the essence of identity. Each spring, take time to realize your part to open a new life. Like flowers, we grow inside. The light in our lives began within us. We cultivate these inner qualities of attention until they grow and develop in our daily lives. The next growth is caused by what we focus on or hold our attention to within us. Like flower petals unfolding in the world around us, we create an awareness presence. With full bloom, your beauty or lack affects the lives of all around us. As our inner attention patterns pass through us, the world illuminates the seeds of awareness contained within us for a long time. Here, life is created. It is the life of our soul.
