Back pain is common, often overlooked due to age, gender, and work type. Women aged 30-55 are more likely to experience these issues, with non-specific back pain being the most common symptom.
Back pain, affecting the rib cage and thigh bone, is caused by movement and middle-aged spine diseases, affecting the functional units of the spine. Core health relies on maintaining spine muscles and weight control, as these vertebrae safeguard sensory nerves, aid in standing, and facilitate movement.
The main symptoms of diseases of the spine
Pain in and around the waist, pain radiating from the waist to the legs, and pain confined to the legs can all be symptoms of an unhealthy spine. Weakness in the legs, inability to stand and walk for a long time due to numbness and tingling, constipation, urinary obstruction etc. are all signs of problems due to nerve compression.
Diseases and treatments affecting the middle
- Non malignant back pain
Back pain can be caused by muscle spasms affecting the lower back, doing tasks that are not normally done, or due to any injuries. A day or two of rest will relieve this difficulty. Doctors also prescribe medicines and physiotherapy. The trick is to avoid the activity that caused the back pain to prevent the same strain from recurring.
- Disc disorders
Unhealthy spinal discs cause various health problems, including disc herniation, spondylosis, muscle spasms, sprains, listhesis, and stenosis. Minor back pain can be treated with rest, physical therapy, and medications, while severe pain may require selective nerve root block injections. Keyhole surgery or endoscopic surgery may be necessary.
- Spinal cord compression
Difficulties due to narrowing of the spinal cord are usually seen in the elderly. Such conditions are called lumbar canal stenosis. When standing and walking for a long time, there is burning, tingling and weakness in the legs. Get relief while sitting and lying down. If there are only minor problems, the difficulties can be managed with medication and exercise. At the same time, if the symptoms are more, the short part of the spinal cord needs to be surgically removed.
- Back pain that lasts for several days
Back pain can be caused by obesity, smoking, sedentary work, poor posture, poor physical health, spine wear, weak bones, atrophy of muscles, and disc-related disorders. Testing is necessary for diagnosis and treatment.
- Metabolic bone problems
Excessive use of vitamin D3, calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin C pills, thyroid disease, tumors and diseases in the body, including kidney and liver, can all affect the metabolic process of the spinal vertebrae and cause back pain. Treatment should be given according to the disease.
- Quada equina syndrome
It is caused by severe compression of the spinal cord. It is caused by massive disc prolapse/tumor/fracture/blood clot. Physical difficulties such as obstruction of bowel movements and weakness of legs will be felt. Since it is a sign of nerve dysfunction, surgery is performed as soon as possible (within 48 hours) to restore the function of the damaged nerve. After 48 hours, nerve function is irreversibly damaged.
