Making coffee is one of the easiest things in the world, but people are always finding more complex ways to make it. We live in a developed coffee culture where coffee is the most popular beverage on the planet, and people are getting used to things like cappuccino and lattes and are starting to wonder how to make them at home. One of the pitfalls some people fall into is buying ready-made versions of coffee shop drinks that inevitably taste inferior, rather than making the drinks themselves at home.
Your coffee machine can kill you. Well, what if your morning coffee is a matter of life and death, and you have a filthy coffee maker. When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned your coffee machine? Washing the pot is important, but cleaning the internal components of a coffee machine is a task that should not be skipped. Did you know you have to clean it? A clean coffee machine can be the difference between a good cup of coffee and a bad cup of mud.
A clean coffee machine really makes a big difference in the way your coffee tastes. Excess coffee oils can accumulate inside your coffee machine. In addition, mineral deposits may occur, especially in areas with hard water. These deposits are called “scales”. There are two types of scale, lime and mineral, and you don't want both. Scale can affect the heating unit and water flow of your coffee machine and reduce its efficiency. How quickly scale forms, form, depends on the quality of your drinking water. If you use bottled water to make your coffee, the limescale probably won't build up as quickly, but you still have to worry about the coffee oils accumulating. It's better to play it safe and clean your coffee maker regularly.
Cleaning your coffee maker isn't hard work, it's actually as easy as making coffee. All you have to do is pour a pot of half vinegar and half water into the water tank of the coffee maker. It goes without saying that white vinegar should be used. Avoid the red wine or apple cider vinegar varieties. Then turn on the normal brew cycle. Your kitchen will likely smell a nice salad as it brews. If you're not a fan of salads, though, remember that there's a small price to be paid for a good cup of coffee.
Now rinse the coffee maker by using only water in the water tank this time and running the brew cycle again. If you still smell vinegar, you may need to do this a few more times.
Another easy way to keep the coffee maker clean is to put a glass ball in the water tank. All the mineral deposits that usually build up inside the coffee maker will instead build up on the marble. Now and then, remove the marble, wash it, and then put it back in the bin. How easy can this be?
The best solution would be to clean your coffee machine once a month with marble method vinegar. Replace the marble once a week and your coffee maker will be in great condition.
If you have an old coffee maker, and you are not satisfied with the taste of the brew, why not try cleaning it? A clean coffee machine will make more delicious coffee.
