Do you know the Benefits of Taking an Oil Bath?
Let us discuss in detail all the benefits.
According to Siddha medicine (Siddha medicine is a form of traditional medicine originating in southern India). It is one of the oldest systems of medicine in India., an oil bath is necessary once in four days. Oil baths should be taken twice a week in summer and once a week in the rainy season.
Men should take an oil bath on Wednesday and Saturday, and women on Tuesday and Friday. But, due to the change of time, the habit of rubbing oil baths has almost disappeared.
Moreover, many of us take oil baths only for Diwali (Diwali is one of the most celebrated and most liked Festivals in India and especially in South India - Tamil Nadu it is being celebrated in a very grand manner by children to senior citizens). Some people get colds and flu when they suddenly take an oil bath for Diwali out of habit.
So it is necessary to take an oil bath on Diwali with some precautions, says Siddha doctor Vikram Kumar. Here are his most important information about oil baths for you.
What is the best oil for an oil bath?
Castor oil is very suitable for oil baths. Similarly, Til Oil is also very much used in Southern parts of India, especially in Tamil Nadu.
At what time in the morning is it good to take an oil bath on Diwali?
It is best to take an oil bath around 5 in the morning. But I am not used to taking oil baths. So, if you are worried about catching a cold if you take a bath early, you can take a bath on Diwali at 5:30 a.m. when the sun is slightly peeking out.
Apply oil from the scalp to the soles of the feet (you don't need to apply the oil directly, it is enough to apply the oil all over the body). A proper oil bath is to stay in the sun for half an hour and then take a bath.
Follow this method on Diwali. But if you think it is not possible for me to practice then you can apply oil on the joints of the body like the scalp, soles, palms, navel, back of back, back of neck, shoulders, and knees and soak for 20 minutes to half an hour and then take a bath.
Similarly, some people rub oil and bathe in raw water. Due to this, problems like colds and flu are likely to occur. So, whenever you apply oil, you should bathe in hot water. Siddha medicine also emphasizes that ``If you get oil, take a bath in hot water.''
Hot water Boilers used in villages
Some people rub the oil on their head on the first night and take a bath the next day, thinking that the oil should soak in well. If you do this, you will get a fever, and sometimes you will get convulsions due to increased cold, so this should be avoided completely.
As per Dr. Vikramkumar Siddha, When you take a bath with fresh oil, your body feels a bit tired that day.
Do these things to avoid catching a cold:
Those of you who are going to take a first-time oil bath on Diwali can take some precautions to avoid catching a cold.
That is, you can add a pinch of pepper, a pinch of cumin, a clove of garlic, and a pinch of chili powder to the oil and heat it slightly, and then rub it. If not, rub some pepper on the scalp and then take a bath with oil on it.
When taking an oil bath, divide the oil into two parts, head oil and body oil. Because usually there is dirt on the head, if the oil rubbed on the head is rubbed on other parts of the body, there is a possibility that the dirt on the head will go to other parts of the body.
சீயக்காய் in Tamil (Chickpea) which is a Powder made from Herbals that is most used in Southern parts of India, especially in Tamil Nadu. Shampoos etc. do not completely remove the viscosity of the oil, so whenever you apply oil, wash your head with shea butter. Use a mixture of chickpeas and peanuts to remove excess oil from the body. Or you can take a bath by rubbing Nalangu flour on your body. Rubbing such powders and taking a bath will remove the oiliness and dirt from the skin and give the skin a glow.
After taking a bath with the oil, it is very good to apply chamomile smoke to the head. Sambirani (Sambrani is the Indian name for Benzoin sometimes called Gum Benzoin, a balsamic resin obtained from the bark of several species of trees in the genus Styrax. The term Sambrani is coined by Ayurveda (an ancient system of medicine) for the yellow resin, a gum-like substance that comes from the perfumed bark of the Sal tree. The sap is extracted from the tree by making an incision in the bark of the tree. This herbal resin is then collected and processed in the form of minute granules that are pressed hard to form crystals of Sambrani. It emits a pleasant balsamic fragrance when burned on a charcoal tablet.) smoke removes the water accumulated in the head. But nowadays, pure frankincense is rare to find in stores, so you can make your own herbal frankincense powder at home.
When you take an oil bath for the first time, your body feels a bit tired that day. Continue the oil bath to get rid of this fatigue. You will never stop this habit as your body will feel refreshed and refreshed.
So, it doesn't matter if you haven't taken an oil bath in so many days, use this Diwali as an excuse to start. Especially, the elders of the house don't just stop with you but also bring this good habit to the next generation as your children and grandchildren.
What can you eat after taking an oil bath?
It's not Diwali, whenever you take an oil bath, don't eat cold food on that day. Also, avoid heavy food which slows digestion, as the body will feel cold on the day of the oil bath. Avoid non-vegetarian food as much as possible on the day of the oil bath.
On the day of bathing with oil, body heat escapes through the eyes, causing eye irritation. Especially sleepy. If you sleep for two or three hours in the afternoon because you feel sleepy, your body heats up, and your body becomes tired. So, if you feel sleepy, it is better to take a nap while sitting on a chair and wake up.
You know that an oil bath relieves body heat and gives vitality to the body and a glow to the skin. But it is also worth noting that when the oil is rubbed into every part of the body, it stimulates the lymphatic system that removes waste from the body. So, make it a habit of oil bath which is a mine of benefits at least from the coming Diwali, says Siddha doctor Vikramkumar.
