What is sympatric speciation?

From our childhood, we learned that, a species will go through lot of modifications to adapt the environment. Such adaptation and modifications which evolved naturally over years called evolution. Speciation is one form of evolution where one species gives rise to another species. Let's see about sympatric speciation in detail.

Types of speciation:

Speciation is nothing but a new kind of plant or creature that evolve in the planet.

Same species can inter breed among themselves. And those species produce fertile off springs. Speciation can occur in four ways, allopatric, sympatric, peripatric and parapatric speciation. Let's see a short introduction of all these speciations

Consider a species of snail living happily, due to some geographical changes, the whole species divided into some division. So, each group go into different kind of speciation. After some time they could not reproduce their off spring. Then they get into a geographical isolation. These two species gets separated and isolated by geographical effects. This speciation is called allopatric speciation.

Peripatric speciation is similar to allopatric speciation. The  same geographical effects like allopatric, but in this case, small population goes in one side and another in one side. So, further they go through an evolution.

Sympatric speciation is the evolution of species by genetic polymorphism. This genetic polymorphism is shown by color, size or any changes due to genes. They can't inter breed with parent for longer time. The different gene population will involve another evolution. They will be a speciation evolves without any geographical effects.

When the surrounding area or niche of population changes due to factors like pollution, it leads to the two different niches in population. One as original and another is new which is due to pollution. The species in the new niches undergoes random genetic different to adjust the polluted environment. Partial spacial isolation leads to parapatric speciation. These two niches will be connected by a hybrid one. The parapatric speciation is different from sympatric as the evolution undergoes in the hybrid niche.

Sympatric speciation:

Sympatric speciation is a type of species formation, in which a small segment of original becomes isolated reproductively. This speciation is the formation of a species within a single population without geographical isolation. Moreover, reproductive isolation brings about sympatric speciation. Also, this speciation is controversial, as many scientists don't believe it exists. The word "sym" means together, where "patric" is native land. Sympatric speciation is an easy concept to understand, using the words.

Sympatric occurs when there are no physical barriers preventing  any members of a species from mating with another. Also, all members are in proximity to one another.

Also, a new species, perhaps based on a different food source, seems to develop immediately. The individual become dependent on certain aspects of an environment, such as food or shelter, while others do not. This speciation is happening due to genetic within the population.

Conclusions:

We all know that, without adaptation, we could not survive in the environment. So, the evolution is necessary. When a specific evolution due to genetic or environment factors. Hence, we can get a clear view about sympatric speciation. Hope this article gives a brief detail about sympatric speciation.
