What Is Success Anyway

Our society often makes the mistake of equating success with wealth. No wonder we do that. Wealth, however, has the advantage of being measurable. When we can measure something, we can categorize how we are doing compared to everyone else. We like to compete with each other.

But apart from giving us an easy way to "live with Jones", what does success equate to wealth? It is generally accepted that money does not buy happiness. If someone is rich and unhappy, is he successful? no way!

Success is worth less than money. A successful person sees what he contributes and is satisfied with what he sees. Success is recognition, even if it is only internal (because in the end, you are the only one who is completely part of your life). If you are happy, you have succeeded.

Unfortunately, while American tradition holds that the pursuit of happiness is an inalienable right, happiness itself is not guaranteed. The pursuit of happiness can be a frustrating battle between competitive preferences, high prices, and wasted time. These very real expenses give us the illusion that our unhappiness is due to what we have spent along the way, from which we can easily conclude that if we had fewer responsibilities, fewer expenses, and more time. We would be happy We dedicate most of our lives to achieving the level of financial freedom from which we can eventually retire and enjoy our hard-earned free time.

Still, did you know that the average life expectancy of a retiree is expected to not pose a new challenge to his time? Man develops on stimulus. We can't go from work to permanent vacation. We get bored, and we die.

So the secret of true happiness is neither having money nor saving money for the future. Both of these can be useful (and to some extent, they are quite sensible), but it is very important that you indicate what you would like to do with your time instead of releasing it too soon. Find ways to

If you don't know what you want to do - and especially if you believe that whatever it is, it's not what you're doing right now - you probably can't just give up, but you start making such changes. Make you happy. Start looking for other options. Sign up for some adult education classes at Community College, the kind that has a flat fee and meets once a week for a few weeks. Study languages, maybe. Or art. Or cooking. Do your best. When you find it you will know what you like.

And once you find it, see how you can incorporate it into your life. We spend most of our lives sleeping or at work, and the problem is that you need your sleep. You may need to work to survive, but you may also be working on a job that you enjoy. Then you will be on the path to happiness. This is a success.
