The World Wide Web has caught my attention since I was introduced to it by my mother (another WWW!). That was 10 years ago, and since then, my interest in all the different things that can be done online has continued to grow.
For the past few years, I have been struggling with the idea of making money online. Although I researched and found a lot of information, most of it was vague and did not give me any practical answer to the most important question: what you MUST do to make money online.
While trying to find answers, I came across a very informative online video that gave me a lot of information about online marketing and gave me the best food I could think of. The video talked about "Niche Markets"; what they are and why they are important to anyone who would like to make money online by selling a product or service. The concept of Niche Markets applies to any business or service provider, whether they work online or otherwise.
When you look it up in a dictionary, the word "Niche" means "An environment or activity that is specially tailored to a person's interests, skills, or environment".
A "Niche Market" is a group of people who have the same interest or ability or environment, all of whom may be interested in the same product or service. The common interest of these people can be anything from casual entertainment, a common problem, a common cultural background, to any similar desire they may have. Let me explain this in a few examples:
1) Niche market for people with a scrapbooking hobby
2) A niche market for people with a common lower back problem
3) Niche market for all Hispanics
4) A niche market for people with the same desire to learn to plumb
People with similar interests often meet, and you can easily find pockets of such people online; in forums and groups or by visiting their favorite websites.
It is best to direct your marketing to select niche audiences to benefit you and them. It is always a waste of time, effort, and resources to market your product or service to niche viewers who are not interested in what you are selling. For example, if you try to sell scrapbooking items to niche viewers who want to learn to plumb, you will not find any customers. Granted, you will find an unusual plumber who also loves to keep his scrapbook, but you will not make a profit! Similarly, marketing a new acne product that works for a group of people with low back pain will only lead to the loss of money you have spent on advertising your acne solution for them.
Niche Marketing is very expensive and powerful; The world's most successful businesses use this concept to maximize profits. So, if you have a particular product or service that you want to sell, focus on your Niche Market marketing efforts that also take care of it. On the other hand, if you do not have a particular product in mind that you want to sell online, it is a good idea to look for niche markets and think about what they might be interested in buying and offer them that particular solution/product.
