The root canal is the dental process we all know. Water roots are something we all fear, although when someone finds this process most of us find it funny. When someone asks for a root canal on the other side, most of us, including dentists, find it absurd to say the least.
Although many are unaware of this, the root system has been around for generations. Many years ago, ancient civilization used this method to save teeth that could otherwise be lost. These civilizations provided the root cause for those who were like queens, kings, pharaohs and the rich. Teeth from farmers were usually extracted and sold to dignitaries.
Many years ago, doctors believed that worms were the cause of tooth decay. They also believed that there were many ways to kill worms, including washing the mouth with personal urine day and night. Root canals are a very common procedure these days, as they help save a tooth by removing dead or dying pulp. Teeth consist of three layers outer enamel, inner dentin and inner most pulp. The pulp is located inside the tooth, and it contains blood vessels and nerves responsible for nutrition and sensation in the tooth. The tissue in the pulp is kept alive by the blood vessels from the root canal and travel through the root canal to the tooth. In adddition it also contains blood cells and immune cells which are responsible for defense and protection. Dental pulp bcomes infected if tooth has suffered from decay. Once the decomposition has reached the pulp, it will continue to eat until the pulp is dead. When it is dead, the toxins from the decay will be released to the root point and will then travel to the jaw. If not properly cared for, the jaw can become infected, which can lead to death in rare cases.In cases If decay left untreated it progress through enamel and dentin inflamed the pulp. Untreated pulpitis can spread to the abscess and other infections.
To correct this problem, the dentist will need to do a root canal. During the process, he will clean the decay by making a drill hole in the tooth. Using various tools and equipment, he will penetrate the tooth pulp and remove the nerves and dead pulp. All this procedure is done under local anasthesia if needed. This is a very effective procedure and have the advantage of preserving the tooth, although it is time consuming as well. In most cases, a root canal can take several hours, but may be done in single visit depending upon the condition of tooth and pulp. Although, it is the only way to stop the dying pulp and preserve the tooth. Even though it may take longer - it is more than worthwhile if it saves your tooth from being pulled out.
