Pakistanis recognise December 25 as a day of national significance since it is the anniversary of the birth of the Father of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, father of the nation. The Muslim League was formed when Jinnah, who every Pakistani refers to as Quaid-i-Azam (the great leader), united the Muslims of the Indian Subcontinent under his profound vision, unwavering resolve, intelligence, dedication, and courage. He led a very protracted nonviolent fight that culminated on August 14, 1947, with the creation of Pakistan.
Jinnah envisioned Pakistan as an independent, democratic nation where the rule of law would be supreme, politicians would work hard and honestly for the good of the country, Muslims could openly practise their religion, all citizens, including women, would be vital to the nation's advancement, human rights would be protected, everyone would receive swift justice, poverty and illiteracy would be eradicated, and non-Muslims would be treated with respect.
