Let us know in detail-
What is Protein ?
J. Berzelias was the first to use the word protein. Protein is one of the three main classes of food. Proteins are made up of amino acids that serve as the building blocks of the body. Proteins are needed for cells to grow and mold themselves. A protein is an organic compound made up of a single chain that may consist of a chain of amino acid chains.
This chain binds bonds called peptide ligaments and is one of the protein compounds that is very important for the health of the human body as it is one of the basic components of tissues and cells. Regulates various body functions like hormones and enzymes.
The body gets proteins from foods and foods and when this protein enters the body, the sufficient amount of protein in the body gets converted into the protein that serves it while the body converts more protein than the body needs like glucose. is converted into energy sources.
There are three types of proteins-
1. Complete protein- Foods containing this type of protein contain all the essential amino acids. Complete proteins are mostly found in animal products or foods such as meat, dairy products and eggs etc.
2. Incomplete protein- Incomplete protein or protein-rich foods are deficient in at least one or more essential amino acids. They are called incomplete proteins or complete proteins. Proteins obtained from all plants are incomplete proteins such as peas, nuts and some grains etc.
3. Complementary protein- Complementary protein is made by mixing two or more foods with incomplete proteins. These can be used to supply complete protein. For example, peanuts with butter, rice and buns or bread are included.
What is the function of protein ?
Protein is considered to be an important building block of the body and is found in all the cells of the body. Many proteins are enzymes that catalyze biochemical reactions and play an important role in metabolism. Protein is responsible for these functions for the human body.
Protein is needed for the functioning of every cell in the body.
Proteins play an important role in transporting and storing molecules throughout the body. such as hemoglobin and myoglobin.
* Helps in repairing cells and building new cells.
* Protein protects the body from virus and bacterial infections in the form of antibodies.
* Protein promotes proper growth and development in children, adolescents and pregnant women.
* Carrying out important functions of enzymes such as amylase and the hormone insulin.
* Protein works as neurotransmitter.
