What is Politics

Before discussing what Politics is, we should know where the word comes from. According to the ancient Greek philosopher “politics” originated from the two words, one is “Polis” and another is “Polites”.

Professor DK Biswas in his book “Political Sociology” described politics as The ancient Greeks explained the political rule as government by pure persuasion and they described the art of governing by use of force as a pre-political phenomenon’’.

Politics is a kind of activity. This activity is universal in all societies. Politics is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations between individuals, such as the distribution of resources or status. The branch of social science that studies politics and government is referred to as political science. In the final analysis, politics is a kind of social process or activity. Political activity is observed at all levels of the past, present, and future. The Greek philosopher Aristotle called politics a ‘’master science”. Political activities are not limited to state political parties, groups, trade unions but also include Families, schools, colleges, cultural organizations, religious organizations, sports organizations, multinational organizations, international organizations, and even government or nongovernment organizations.

In a word, politics is the process by which the top officials representing an organization come to a definite decision for the deliberation of the views of all the people through differences of opinion on various issues of different individuals. This organizational activity exists in all cases.

In our society many people use politics as a satirical sense out of fear or hatred. But unbeknownst to them, they do not understand that everyone is involved in political activities from birth. For example, as a family has a head who decides all the actions of the family. In the same way, gradually from one neighborhood to another, from village to town, district to state and from state to state, an official representing the top in all cases, all decisions are made. And this is the main religion of politics. These are always organized to protect the welfare of individuals.

Politics takes the responsibility for all kinds of freedom and safety of everyone living in the society. However, some contemporary socialist parties, in order to protect their own interest, are doing something in the name of political activity which is harming the country and the people. If the political leaders judge those activities by keeping an eye on them, then the welfare of the society will achieve and people’s faith will be stronger on politics. Then various social organizations will try to take firm steps to protect the interest of the society and the people living in the society.

                                                                Man is a political animal

                                                                                                                      -  Aristotle

If this is true, then politics is not only prevalent in our lives, but inevitable.

We must understand politics to meaningfully participate in it.

Finally we can say, politics itself is a mixture of the high and low. Politics is the realm in which we attempt to realize some of our highest aspirations: Our desire for political freedom, our longing for justice, our hope for peace and security.

At the same time politics is laced with individuals and groups seeking their selfish interests at the expense of others.
