OSTEOARTHRITIS
There are some pains, some ailments when it becomes pain and hair, and especially the pain that causes life to change from a flower bed to a bed of thorns. And this often happens when our knees and joints start to ache.
Yes, today we are going to talk about joint pain, which is the most common cause of osteoarthritis. Inflammation and swelling of the joints in simple and smooth language.
There are many types of arthritis, but in our society, especially in Pakistan, two types of arthritis are the most common.
- Osteoarthritis also known as arthritis.
- Rheumatoid arthritis.
Remember that when we usually tell someone that someone has a chronic joint disease or disease, it often refers to osteoarthritis because it is the most common cause of arthritis worldwide. That is the common oath.
Osteoarthritis is a wear and tear disease that is caused by the shock absorbers of the vehicle passing through uneven paths over and over again. The suspension of our joints, which you also call the spinal cord or cartilage in English, also slowly gets old and fades away.
As a result, our bones begin to rub against each other at the site of our joints, so our joints begin to make noises, we have difficulty moving, and this pain progresses to swelling and inflammation of the joints.
The disease gets worse with age, so people who are overweight or obese are at higher risk.
In addition, the risk of osteoarthritis increases with age, and this disease is more common after the age of forty.
Similarly, women are at higher risk of osteoarthritis than men. That is, women are twice as likely to have osteoarthritis as men.
And then if someone in your family has osteoarthritis (joint disease), you are more likely to have osteoarthritis, meaning family history is also a risk.
Similarly, if your lifestyle does not include much exercise, and you spend most of your time lying down or sitting, you are still at higher risk for the disease.
What are the places or joints in our body that can be most affected by osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis most commonly affects our knees, fingers, shoulders, hips and feet.
SYMPTOMS OF OSTEOARTHRITIS
Symptoms of osteoarthritis include joint pain that usually gets worse at night.
Obstacles and difficulty in bending, during exercise, climbing stairs.
Stiffness in the joints after resting.
Small lumps also form on the joints of the hands and feet.
The skin above the joints also gets slightly warmer, and it is also painful to put your hands on the joints.
So these are the symptoms, and with the help of the patient's case history, the doctor can determine if you really have osteoarthritis. And if so, what kind? But keep in mind that doctors also make confirmed diagnoses only after doing some blood tests and X-rays.
OSTEOARTHRITIS TREATMENT
Doctors often recommend "knee replacement". Is this treatment appropriate?
Yes, nowadays this treatment is becoming very popular. Basically, surgeons have at least three to four methods of treating arthritis, in addition to medication. For example, you can have surgery to smooth the surfaces of your joints, or to restore a crooked bone (called arthroscopy).
You can also have surgery to replace your entire joint, which is called a new replacement. Arthroplasty is commonly used to replace hip and knee joints. Your surgeon will remove your affected joint and replace it with a prosthetic prosthesis made of special plastic and metal.
The third method is arthrosis, meaning you can have surgery to replace your joint. If you cannot have an arthroplasty, your surgeon may recommend an orthodontic operation that will place your joint in its permanent position. This means that your joints will become slightly stronger and less painful, although you will not be able to move them further.
CAN ARTHRITIS BE TREATED AT HOME?
Of course, in home treatment, we pay special attention to two angles. One is movement, for example, exercise, massage, etc., and the other is diet.
EXERCISE
Exercise is very important in treating arthritis. Regular exercise will not only keep you active and active, but it will also help keep your muscles strong and your joints strong.
Your doctor or physiotherapist may make an exercise plan available to you. Similarly, if you are overweight or obese, exercise and try healthy foods. Being overweight or obese puts extra strain on your joints and can make your condition worse.
IT IS VERY USEFUL TO WASH THE DISHES BY HAND.
It may sound strange if you have pain in the joints of someone's hands, but this simple work done in every kitchen actually reduces the pain. First of all, dip your hands in warm water for a while to relax the muscles and joints and reduce their stiffness. Then wash the dishes.
GIVING HOT AND COLD TREATMENT TO THE JOINTS
You will need two plastic containers, one filled with cold water and some ice cubes, and the other with hot water that you can tolerate when you touch it. First soak your sore joints in cold water for one minute and then soak the affected area in hot water for 30 seconds. In the same way, keep changing the cans for fifteen minutes, but only soak the affected area in each box for 30 seconds.
WALKING BAREFOOT
Walking barefoot in a grassy area reduces knee pain by up to 12%. According to a US study, walking barefoot in the open air for a while reduces the pain, but do not try to lift your heels or walk on your toes as it increases the pressure on the joints.
Also, put salt in lukewarm water and sit in the bath tub for a while, avoid lifting weights and climbing stairs, sleep at the right angle at night, get proper rest. Sun exposure and a massage of the joints with lukewarm olive oil can also be helpful.
The most important thing is to stay active at home and do light physiotherapy. Before physiotherapy, take the limbs and activate your muscles well. To reduce muscle swelling and pain from bone, massage with a good balm. Extreme care should be taken in the winter, and a warm bandage or warm cloth should be tied around the knees and joints.
So, in fact, some foods, exercise and household items can naturally reduce your joint pain in a natural way, which is also supported by medical science.
