Needle gas crisis and national consciousness
It is a fact that natural gas is found underground with different depths and geographical formations. It is one of the most widely found energy sources in Pakistan. But as the intensity of the cold increases in our homeland, the problem of gas shortage also intensifies, the stoves in the houses have cooled down. And production has been suspended due to gas outages to industries, which is why the corona-hit economy is again taking hiccups. In Pakistan, various sectors including domestic consumers, industry, and CNG are facing gas outages due to increased demand for natural gas in winter and limited production. In winter, the daily gas demand is 8 billion cubic feet, while the gas in the system is only 4 billion cubic feet. The country is facing a shortage of cubic feet of gas, about four billion per day. In this case, both gas supply companies Sui Southern and Sui Northern Gas Supply Company make gas load management plans in which priority is given to domestic consumers. Keeping in view the depleting natural gas reserves and growing demand, the government is importing LNG or liquid natural gas from Qatar. But, the situation has not improved. Unlike government commitments, industries that play an important role in exports are also not getting gas. In order to meet the requirement of gas in luck, where gas is produced locally, imported gas is also added to the system as local gas production in Pakistan is unable to meet the country's requirement and the country's gas reserves are constantly declining. While imported gas has been in conflict and allegations of corruption and mismanagement on gas imported from abroad are also heard consistently. Pakistan is importing liquid natural gas from Qatar, which reaches Karachi port by ships. Liquid natural gas or LNG is reconverted from liquid to gas through plants installed at Karachi port and added to the system. According to a petroleum ministry statement, an LPG ship has docked in Karachi, after which the gas situation in the country is likely to improve. And the system will add 250 MMCFD gas in total.
In Pakistan, only 28% of consumers are supplied gas through the pipeline. The gas crisis is intensifying every year due to a decline in the gas reserves discovered in the country and the non-availability of new reserves. Gas has been imported in the country for many years due to lack of natural gas, but still, there is a disagreement between the provinces and the federation regarding the laying of pipelines and construction of terminals, which only causes inconvenience to the people. In nuclear-capable Pakistan, people are suffering from load shedding in summer and the gas crisis in winter puts the people in dire straits, people in rural areas are living by burning wood due to gas load shedding while citizens are forced to use expensive gas cylinders. On the other hand, the stoves of the poor are cold, the rulers are cursed, when they do not get bread at school in the morning, the children start starving. The government is unable to provide the common man with the necessities of life, and inflation was brought to the seventh heaven. The public does not have the power to buy expensive LPG gas and wood, I don't understand how to feed children. The hoteliers have also increased the bread rates. The administration has become helpless in controlling inflation. Though Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced as well as claimed that needle gas should be supplied to consumers during cooking hours, the Sui Northern Gas Department blew the announcement into the air with satisfactory consolations. I strongly request Prime Minister Imran Khan to take note of the needle gas crisis again and resolve the issue so that the people get rid of the suffering caused by the gas outage and also the wheel of industries. On the other hand, we must also close our stove after using heater and geyser, so the same leftover gas can be of use to someone else in need, which will not only reduce their own bill, but it is the national duty to save electricity gas. We as a whole nation need consciousness and feeling.
