What is needed beyond digital technology (Digital learning in classrooms)?

 

 

Digital education is the innovative use of digital tools and technologies during teaching and learning, and is often referred to as Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) or e-Learning.

Technology has become an integral part and distinct feature of modern societies. The successful navigation of complex digital landscapes is proposed as an important prerequisite to participate in economic, social, and cultural life.

Technology not only opens doors to social inclusion in modern societies, but also provides students and educators with a variety of opportunities to support teaching and learning processes.

More recently, the idea of ​​problem-solving skills has been increasingly emphasized in different phases of teaching with technology (example planning, implementation, evaluation, and sharing).

Examples of education ICT include using cloud-based learning software, apps, blogs or discussion boards, digital whiteboards, and other interactive online tools for students and teachers.

Digital learning in schools

Frequency of digital technology use has previously been examined from the perspectives of students and teachers. Digital technologies are pervasive in schools and are part of teaching and learning practices. These results do not show how digital technologies are used in classrooms. Approaching learning and teaching with technology is important because frequency of digital technology use shows mixed relationships with student learning outcomes.

Teachers’ skills

In addition to basic digital skills, specific technology-related teaching skills when planning, implementing and evaluating digital learning and teaching situations may be related to students' creative and interactive learning activities and the frequency of using digital technology during teaching. We will introduce the skills of these teachers in the following sections. 

Basic digital skills

Basic digital skills can be defined as the set of individual's ability to participate effectively and responsibly in economic, social and cultural life through digital technologies.

Comprehension of computer use refers to basic knowledge and skills for processing information through digital technologies. Information gathering refers to searching, accessing, evaluating and managing information. The production of information with digital technologies refers to the transformation and creation of new products that can be created with existing ones. Communication refers to the exchange of information through digital technologies.

Technology-related teaching skills

Plan and design learning environments and experiences, implement methods and strategies for using technology to enhance student learning, and assess and evaluate student learning and technology-based instructional approaches.

Pedagogy, technology, and content knowledge may be the professional knowledge base for teachers who use technology efficiently, but recent approaches propose an action-oriented perspective that links teaching skills to common stages in initiating teaching and learning activities with digital technologies.

The present study

In this study, we examine teachers' use of digital technology in their teaching and student learning activities involving digital technology teachers.

Because basic digital skills should be based on technology-related teaching skills, we estimate that teachers' basic digital skills are significantly more advanced than their technology-related teaching skills.

Digital Technology in Schools

In addition to technology-related teaching skills, the availability of digital technologies in schools may be related to the use of technology and learning activities involving technologies. Digital technologies are computer-based technologies that deliver domain-general and domain-specific content and/or allow interaction with or about the content and support teachers and/or students during that interaction.

Learning is a process that should lead to relatively stable changes in the representations of attitudes, knowledge, and skills in the long-term memory of students. Active cognitive processing is a prerequisite for transferring knowledge to the long-term memory.

Measurement of variables 

An overall picture of the objects used for predictor variable of teaching assistants basic electronic skill sets, technology-related training session, and amount of digital innovation at school. For these predictors variable, we accomplished multiple regression assessments to assess whether such creates had been evaluated constantly.

Technology-related subject knowledge conceal the specific information for innovation use within schools but also skill sets to have interaction in intending, instituting, analyzing, and communicating of technology-related teachers and students.

Statistical analysis

First, the effect of using digital technology during teaching varies with frequency and includes teachers' basic digital skills, technology-related teaching skills, and digital technology in school. The second Semester included the four outcome variables of students' passive, active, constructive and interactive learning activities and predictors similar to digital technology and the first Semester. We standardized all coefficients across both Semesters before reporting.

Discussion

    The results of this study show that teachers in Bavarian secondary schools frequently use digital technologies in their teaching – although there is considerable heterogeneity among teachers. This result is consistent with the results of other studies.

Nevertheless, our results did not show a linear relation between the availability of digital technologies in schools and teaching with digital technology.

Limitations 

The conclusions of our analysis must be interpreted in light among some limitations. One constraint is the fairly tiny quantity of products that establish the predictor variable. This lack of strength is expounded with the use of phone as a methodological approach.

Conclusions

Including technology-related communication skills during teacher education academic achievement and community colleges is also a method to improve the likeliness of students 'constructive learning events with digital tech. This is particularly vital because teachers' technology-related subject knowledge have some markedly lower successfully implemented than their basic electronic expertise.
