[q] What should those who have lost their jobs during the pandemic do?

[ans] Firstly, they should not give up hope. Loss of jobs is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of changing circumstances. The pandemic has changed the context and the way things are done and so the natural consequence is that many jobs have changed or closed.

[q]Should such youth develop new skills or improve existing skills?

[ans] Most of the people who have lost their jobs during this pandemic are those where those jobs have lost their relevance or the entire industry has been affected. So if they want to go back to work, they will need to identify the areas or roles that have now gained prominence and develop skills to match the requirement.

[q] Are there many courses running online after the pandemic? Should youth take these courses and will companies give preference or preference to these courses?

[ans] As new roles open up, people may not be equipped to perform these tasks, so it is a good idea to acquire these new skills through courses. However one should choose courses based on some level of understanding, interest and willingness to work in the field rather than just popularity.

[q]When the market is slowly opening, where and how should the youth look for jobs?

[ans] While people are looking for jobs, companies are also looking for people who can do this work. The most popular options for looking for jobs are job portals, consultants, job fairs, newspaper advertisements, etc. Check the requirements regularly, keep yourself updated and apply at as many places as possible.

[q]Do you think there will be any change in the recruitment process post COVID-19?

[ans] Change is visible in every industry, process and the way we interact with people. This change has also come in the recruitment process of various companies. They are now looking at pre-assessment, online interviews, use of artificial intelligence in recruitment processes, etc. Some of them may be temporary changes, but most are permanent. It will be important to understand such processes and prepare yourself to face them.

[q] How should I prepare for the interview?

[ans] It will be important to be transparent on what has happened in the past and the circumstances that led to one’s job loss. Once you know about the company and the role you are applying for, prepare yourself well, get to know about the company’s products, talk to the people who work there. or who have worked there in the past. This will help you to face the questions in the interview with confidence.

[q] What kind of new jobs are being created in the present scenario and will it be a good career option?

[ans] It is very difficult to estimate the impact of the ongoing pandemic on lives and jobs and the way we work. Some things will undergo a permanent change and some will have a temporary effect. The travel industry has been affected a bit but we have seen it come back very strongly in a short span of time. So it will take time for things to settle down and we will know the true long term change only after some time. One thing that has changed permanently is the use of technology. Every industry has been affected and some of the effects are long term. So we must be ready to learn to change with these changes.

[q]What changes are possible with technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Automation?

[ans] As I said earlier, the long-term impact of technology and especially artificial intelligence and big data is something we will have to wait and see. Some of the visible changes are around our ability to reach the consumer, the use of data in decision making, and the ability to use technology to simplify a complex problem. Although the implications of what we know now are few, the opportunities are endless and we are just scratching the surface.
