What is Model United Nation Conference?

Have you imagined yourself standing in United Nations General Assembly and giving a speech like Leonardo DiCaprio or debating on an issue of terrorism or another crucial matter on which the security and the well being of World depend? Well going to the United Nations as a delegate from a country like India is not possible for everyone. One has to write a special letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, providing him details of your achievement and asking him to give approval for you being a delegate in United Nations, but the chances of getting approved are 0.0001%. So in this case Model United Nations Conference come to help. Model United Nations of popularly known as MUNs are a simulation of original United Nations where a particular person has appointed a country, or in a precise sense, a person becomes a delegate or a representative of the country. You are supposed to debate according to your country's policies and previous actions. For judging the delegates, there will be 2 to 3 knowledgeable person popularly known as Executive Board Member. The debate will continue for three days, and then there will be an award ceremony where you will be able to win some exciting goodies and cash prizes.

Committees

Well, like the United Nations, a MUN conference offers a different kind of committees ranging from Human Rights to Climate Change. Some of the famous committees in a MUN conference are

2. United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
3. United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC)
4. United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

Executive Board

Just like United Nations have few person to oversee the debate going on similarly MUN have 3 person to manage the discussion. They consist of persons who have a considerable amount of knowledge about world politics and have 2 to 3 years of experience in MUN. They are 

1. Chairperson 
2. Vice-Chairperson 
3. Rapporteur. 

They ensure the sound flow of debate in a committee.

Procedure 

A healthy debate flows according to 2 processes. They are 

1. UN4MUN
2. UNA-USA

Dress Code

MUNs have a proper dress code. In these three days, one has to wear Western Formal for two days and Ethnic Wear for one day. A delegate should always be well dressed and appropriately groomed.

Personally, for me, MUN had been a place where everyone gathers to share ideas and have fun for three days. Well, I would suggest that every student once in his or her lifetime attend a MUN conference to get an idea of how actual United Nation work. Thank you
