Mastery by Robert Greene is a book based on human psychology. This book is more directed towards finding a skill to take an apprenticeship in to even perhaps create a new field and niche. Robert Greene helps us become more aware of our life tasks and helps us proceed to create a new sense of direction, a sense of purpose that the mass society drains out of us. It also helps you regain consciousness to your open mind (your child-like mind), this is because as we grow older our minds slowly start to close up and we lose a sense of wilderness that we once possessed as a child to see things with an open mind. This can be completely reversed by content mind training and constantly seeing the world from another perspective. Another sign of this mind closing is as people get older they think that they have learned enough and they dislike anything that goes against their assumptions thus they don’t like anything that opposes them for their betterment. Mastery is a sensation where the child-like openness of the mind blends with over 10 000 hours of seemingly boring hard consecutive skills built slowly upon years of hard work (which nowadays is increasingly rare). A child on its own has the correct mindset but lacks the hours of endurance to put into a single task and lacks the intense research to put the pieces together whereas somebody who has the knowledge but has a closed mind will be able to produce something but that something will have no life and follow the norm, it will be inauthentic and too calculated like a book with no soul. The mind is a muscle that you always need to tighten.

Over your apprenticeship, you will need various mentors to guide you due to the fact that without this help and this guidance, it will be difficult for you to be aware of certain obstacles in your field and how to overcome them. Things like this can steal time away from you whereas a mentor can guide you earlier on so that your time is saved and you can progress in the correct manner. This book teaches us to always value time and learning over monetary gain and false stability. A lot of people enter fields that they relatively dislike for the wrong reasons such as money (which is mostly escalated by families), attention, and pressure. You will be assailed by varieties of hidden pain. We must follow the work that gives us a feeling of purpose anything else is known as a false path as in the long run you will end up feeling stuck and depressed. Robert Greene has also warned us about the side effects of accumulating mentors along the journey of your apprenticeship (your life’s purpose). One of these side effects is that certain mentors will latch onto you as if you belong to them this is mostly due to envy of your youth, in this circumstance you must leach all the possible knowledge you could from the mentor and move onto a new mentor that way your mind will continue evolving. Reshape your work and your future with the mentor’s criticism and feedback. Trust the process and you will always be evolving. Become friends with boredom and move towards resistance and pain which is opposing the world around you for a better future.
