What is Management

Management, often known as managing, is the process of administering organisations, be they government agencies, nonprofit organisations, or businesses, using the business, nonprofit, or political science subfields of public administration, respectively. It is the science of overseeing the financial resources of companies, governments, and other establishments.

Management Levels

There are three tiers of management roles:

1. Top Management

The chairman, chief operating officer, vice president, chief executive officer, and president are often the highest ranking executives in a corporation. Their responsibility is to coordinate departmental activity and integrate various company components. Along with analysing the business environment and its effects, they also set goals to guarantee the company's existence and the well-being of its stakeholders.

2.Middle Management

The middle management connects the operational management and the top management. It is primarily made up of division heads. Heads of departments and divisions report to upper management and serve as mentors to operational managers. It is their responsibility to comprehend the policies established by upper management and communicate them to the departments or divisions they oversee.

3. Operational management

The workforce's efforts are directly supervised by supervisors, section leads, or forepersons. They are in charge of quality assurance and making sure the work is completed before the deadline. Plans outlining supervisors' authority and responsibilities are established by upper management.

Characteristics of management

Some of the fundamental characteristics of management are as follows:

Multiple-dimensional

The majority of management is responsible for monitoring and controlling the production or service cycle of a business. Managers collaborate closely with and mentor the individuals in their team. A manager views an employee as a member of the team as well as an individual with a range of requirements. Managers must persuade their team members to use their special talents in order to accomplish the objectives of the company in order for them to be effective.

Dynamic

Management is a dynamic function that changes and adapts to technological, socio-political, and economic changes in its environment. For example, the quick adoption of screens and digital gadgets may result in a drop in sales for a paper company. How well the company's management adjusts to the demands of the changing market will determine if it will survive.

Intangible

Although management is not a physical good, its presence can alter how an organisation operates. Policies, interpersonal relationships, and beliefs make up management. Target accomplishment percentages, staff satisfaction, and general operational ease are all enhanced by good management.
