What is lung disease

Lung Diseases:

 

(a) Asthma: Asthma is a chronic lung disease caused by inflamation and narrowing of the airways. Symptoms of asthma includes sneezing, chest tightness, breathing problems and coughing. The disease is incurable and the symptoms of asthma become severe during night and early morning. In this condition the cells of the airways secrete more mucous which may further cause narrowing of the airways.

 

Dust in the air, smoke and shoots appear to be important pollutants for development of asthma in man.

 

(b) Bronchitis: Bronchitis is an inflammation of bronchus, the wind pipe, present between lungs and upper respiratiory tract. In this disease the lining of bronchus produces large amount of mucous resulting tingeoring cough.

Bronchitis is of two types namely acute bronchitis and chronic bronchitis. Acute bronchitis occurs due to viral or bacterial infection. In influenza or common cold acute bronchitis is a common phenomenon. It is commonly called as irritativebronchitis. Inhalation of dust particles, fumes and smokes may also cause acute bronchitis,

 

Chronic bronchitis is more serious and it last for about 3 months. In this case inflammation of bronchus produces large amount of cough. The most important cause of acute bronchitis is smoking. Exposure to some toxic air pollutants also produces acute bronchitis. Besides smoking for long years, people working coal mines, welding, asbestor factory and grain handing also suffer by acute bronchitis.

 

> Cancer : Cancer is a fatal disease in human which is developed due to abnormal proliferation of the cell. Initially the disease appears as a local thickening in body tissue when it is known a neoplasia and later on it becomes converted into cancer. known as malignant tumour and at the initial phase the local thickening is not so fatal wher It is called benign tumour. detected at early stage then the tumour may be removed surgically, thus curing the disease. But when It turns into malignancy, no cure for the disease is available. In extreme situation the cells from the tumour may be free from the localized site and enter into different tissues of the body producing malignant tumours those tissues.
