What is listening in oet?

There are 42 question items in total across the three sections of the Listening subtest. Each recording will be played once, and you are required to jot down your responses as you listen. It takes 45 minutes to finish all three sections. This is how the Listening sub-test is organized:

Part A – consultation extracts

 Your capacity to recognize particular information during a consultation is evaluated in Part A. You will observe two five-minute consultations between a health professional and patient, and you will use the information you learn to fill in the health professional's notes.

Part B – short workplace extracts

In Part B, you will be tested on your ability to determine the specifics, theme, viewpoint, or intent of brief passages taken from the healthcare industry. One multiple-choice question will be asked after each of the six one-minute extracts (which could be team briefings, handovers, or conversations between medical professionals and patients).

Part C – presentation extract

A variety of easily understood healthcare topics are covered in Part C, which evaluates your ability to follow a recorded presentation or interview. You will be required to respond to six multiple-choice questions for each of the two five-minute extracts that you will hear. 

How to develop listening skill

It would be beneficial for you to practice hearing English spoken in a range of voices and situations at a natural pace. 

Even when they are unable to decode every word or phrase, learners who consistently do this are more adept at extracting important information and the essence of the message.Ensure that you interact with people from diverse backgrounds and ages, as well as hear language in a variety of settings (such as formal lectures and discussions).

Being able to identify words or specific details is insufficient for high-level OET listening.
