The Temple's History and Architecture
You will come upon a stunning statue of Lord Ganesha as soon as you pass the main entrance of the temple located at the foothills. Wander about and strike up conversations with the locals. The friendly security personnel will point you in the direction of the path that leads to the mountaintop.
The greatest way to enjoy the breathtaking natural splendor along the way to the summit is on foot. You have two options: drive to the summit or park your cars and walk up. The 1000 names of Lord Shiva are the names of the 1000 lingams in this place. Ascending, you will encounter them; feel free to stop by and offer prayers if you so choose. With the Sangagiri Mountains as a backdrop, you are treated to both a mind-calming and visually stunning spectacle. Along the route, you'll also see stunning sculptures of Lord Muruga, which enhance the surroundings of the temple.
The major deity, Sri Umayambigai Sametha Sri Arunachala Sundareswara, is magnificently sculpted on top. Witnessed as a breathtaking sight, the sculpture's magnificence amply rewards the uphill walk. It is seventeen meters tall.
This is a place where one may easily lose themselves in the atmosphere of devotion for an entire evening.
For you to document the temple's splendor, photography and videography are also permitted. After giving prayers, you can sit and have a bite at one of the food kiosks. Lockers are available at the shrine for storing additional luggage and valuables.
Ideal Time To Go
The winter months of November through February are the ideal times to visit the temple. This time of year has absolutely beautiful weather, making evening strolls and tea here an unforgettable experience. There is a temperature range of 18 to 28 degrees Celsius.
The temple is easily accessible by taxi or auto rickshaw, as Salem is only 14 kilometers distant. On the property, private automobiles are also permitted.
