What is Lifestyle (social sciences)

A person's or a group's lifestyle refers to their interests, beliefs, actions, and behavioral orientations. The definition of "a person's basic character as established early in childhood" was given by Austrian psychologist Alfred Adler in his 1929 book The Case of Miss R. Since 1961, the term "lifestyle" has been used more broadly to refer to a "way or style of living". Researchers have become more interested in lifestyle as a vital component of health in recent years. WHO estimates that 60% of factors that affect a person's health and quality of life are related to their lifestyle (1). There are millions of people who live unhealthy lives. As a result, individuals experience disease, disability, and even death. An unhealthy lifestyle can contribute to issues including metabolic disorders, joint and bone issues, cardio-vascular diseases, hypertension, obesity, violence, and more. The link between lifestyle and health needs to be carefully considered.

 

Wide-ranging changes have taken place in everyone's lives nowadays. Malnutrition, an unhealthy diet, smoking, drinking excessively, abusing drugs, stress, and other symptoms are manifestations of an unhealthy lifestyle that is the norm. 

Maintaining a healthy weight, getting regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, and quitting smoking are four aspects of a healthy lifestyle that appear to reduce the chance of developing the most prevalent and severe chronic diseases by as much as 80%. This supports the current public health guidelines for adopting healthy lifestyle practices. Because the foundations of these practices frequently emerge during the formative years of life, it is especially crucial to begin teaching fundamental lessons about healthy living at a young age.
Nevertheless, only a small percentage of adults live a healthy lifestyle, and the numbers are actually decreasing despite the benefits of doing so being widely understood.
