What Is Jazz As Dance

Although few people understand the original origins of Jazz as a genre of music, few people still understand the origin of jazz as a dance style. Jazz is a very fatherless child. What’s more, however, jazz like music and dance seems to have many mothers despite not having a father. By this I mean that there are many influences on this type of music and colorful dance although, there is no significant enough influence on the new creation to consider the ‘father’ or ‘mother’ of that jazz story. Although jazz has many birthplaces, that is said to have only one real home, and that home could be New Orleans. Like the music that this city is famous for, New Orleans is a fatherless city too. New Orleans was a melting pot in the true sense of the word before we had a real trace of what it means to be a soluble pot. From the influences of French, Spanish, German, English, and the number of former slaves and free black men and women, New Orleans was the ideal setting for this style of music and mixed dance that it could call home. Not surprisingly, jazz dance emerged as a result of jazz music. There aren’t enough dance moves for fun music we know years ago like jazz. For this reason, something new and a little needed was needed on the main road to save time and keep up with the new emerging music. As a style of dance, jazz was more 'brass' than traditional dances, and in some circles it was considered unsightly. The noble community was not interested in this type of dance. The good news for those who enjoyed this style of dancing was that it had a plethora of places where jazz, a form of dance and music, was easily appreciated. You had to get a little off the beaten path to get it, but for many it was worth the effort. Jazz and dance music were popular for a long time and were seen going underground outside of cities like Memphis, New Orleans, Kansas City, and St. Louis. Louis, where it was part of history and culture. We’ve seen a resurgence of this popular style of music and dance that has become popular in recent years, however, with some famous artists bringing back the sound of the swing and the ‘big band’ that accompanied jazz as both genre of music and dance style. You have to understand, though, that when it comes to jazz, such as music, there are no definite rules to follow in order to be jazz. There are no strict dance steps to follow to get the 'jazz' effect. Jazz dance is often confused with ‘tap dance’ because tap music was often set to jazz music. It is important to note, however, that jazz is not limited to tap dance and that some dance styles fall under the umbrella of 'jazz dance'. Some of the most common jazz dances include: Black Bottom, Boogie, Cakewalk, Charleston, Jitterbug, Lindy Hop, and swing dance. Each of these dance styles seems to make an amazing return to fame over the past two decades and is very exciting to watch, as well as where you can participate if you ever get the chance. If you are considering jazz or your kid's dance lessons, I hope you will decide to indulge yourself. Not only is the music of this type of dance high and uplifting, but the dance style itself is fun and enjoyable. There are very few dance styles that can compete with each other when it comes to licensing art, which is accompanied by flow, and dance easily with the pleasure of dancing. As a form of art and as a form of entertainment, jazz and dance music are the main ones in my book.
