Erotomania: 

  Erotomania is when you think someone is in love with you, but they're not. 

  1. It is a psychological disorder, in which a person assumes that the one they love is also having love with them.
  2. It may be 'a' you have never met.
  3. They might even be politician, actor's, media persons whomever.
  4. You can be so sure of this love that you think you're in a relationship with that person. 
  5. Youmay not able to accept the facts that prove otherwise. 
  6. Erotomania is an uncommon form of paranoid delusion.
  7. This condition is rare, and erotomania affects women more often  than men.
  8. Erotomania can start suddenly, and the symptoms are often long-lasting, with some mental issues.
  9. Erotomania is sometimes called as De clerambaults syndrome.
  10. Erotomania is often related to other psychiatric disorders, but may also occur, but its own.

 Causes; 

Erotomania may be a type of psychiatric disorders,  including schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major depressive disorder with psychotic features, bipolar disorder, or Alzheimer's disease.

Erotomania is a symptom of delusional disorder. Other types include delusions of persecution, grandiosity, or jealousy can occur.

Case reports have suggested that social media networks could exacerbate or even trigger erotomania. 

Some studies have suggested that delusion may develop as a way of managing extreme stress or trauma. 

Genetics may also play a role in erotomania.  

  Who is at risk! 

  • Low self-esteem
  • Social isolation
  • Trouble in  seeing others person point of view
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Brain tumors
  • Drug or alcohol addiction 
  • A feeling of rejection or loneliness 
  • Schizophrenia 
  • Dementia  (rare) 
  • Delusion disorders 
  • Alzheimer's disease 
  • Schizo-affective disorders 
  • Depression.

  Symptoms;

Obsessively consuming media related to the other person if they are celebrity or other person.

Persistently making phone calls to that person.

Constantly sending messages or email to that person. 

Feeling jealous. 

Harassing the other person in the public. 

Being violently. 

Losing interest in activities. 

Always thinking about that particular person. 

Making things worse. 

Complications;

Erotomania can cause someone to show risky or aggressive behavior. In some cases, this behavior can cause someone to be arrested for stalking or harassment. In rare cases, it can cause even death of either person.

For example, 

Nowadays, many cases are recorded according to this condition.

A boy who had deep feelings to a girl, and he started to believe that, one day she will accept him, and also he had a  strong thought that, she had feelings for him. Days were going, one day he came to propose to her, but unfortunately she rejects, because she didn't have any feelings for him. But he can't able to accept it, so he behaves aggressively. 

Associated conditions; 

  1. Anxiety disorders 
  2. Drug or alcohol dependence 
  3. Eating disorders 
  4. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD).

 Treatment: 

Treatment for erotomania usually address the psychos or delusion  symptoms. It involves a combination of therapy and medication. Doctor or medications can guide the patient through counselling or psychotherapy before giving medications.

Classic antipsychotic medications, are often used successfully. 

Nontraditional antipsychotic also been used alongside therapy or counseling. 

If erotomania refer to cause from an  underlying condition, such as bipolar disorders, treatment for this condition may be used. Bipolar disorder is treated with mood stabilizers to improve mood.

 Overview 

Erotomania may only last for a few hours or days. But if it continues for a month or year, it is a result of an underlying mental health conditions.
