Special Military Operation or war? Get to know about the Russia-Ukraine crisis
To understand this situation in a better way we have to visit the past and get to know about the USSR.
What is USSR?
Back in time, Lenin's red army invaded Ukraine in 1021. After this communist Russian revolution, the USSR was established in 1922. Ukraine joined USSR in the same year. In 1991, the union of Soviet socialist republics broke into 15 different countries, out of the Ukrainian was one. To date, Russia owns 70% of the area of the USSR.
Where did this crisis start?
After the partition from USSR, From 1991 to 2014 everything between Russia and Ukraine was going fine. In 2014, Ukraine was all set to join the EU.
What is the EU?
EU stands for European Union, which is the economic and political union of 27 countries of Europe.
So coming back to the Ukraine situation, Ukraine was all set to join the European Union but the Ukrainian President (of that time) who was a supporter of Russia was told to not join the European Union by the Russian government. They even bribed Ukraine's President with million dollars loans and gas for cheap prices. As people say, due to all this Ukraine's President said no to joining the EU but the citizens of Ukraine opposed him. It came to the edge because Ukrainians were even ready to kill the president when he left the country.
The new government came into existence with a promise to make Ukraine a part of Russia. Russia attached to Crimea with the help of the Navy force. The whole world stood watching this invasion. Because of this invasion, G8 removed Russia from its G8 countries and G8 became G7.
What is G8?
G8 is the world's eighth powerfully economical country. These countries are the United Kingdom, United States of America, Russia, Canada, Germany, Japan, France, and Italy. Out of all, 4 are European countries. G8 removed Russia and it became G7 because of the Crimea invasion by Russia.
About Minsk Agreement:-
In September 2015, Minsk Agreement was signed between Russia and Ukraine which said that Ukraine will not be influenced by Europe and America. And they will not fight with Russia in the further future. But in 2017, the problem started again when Ukraine said that they wanted to join Nato.
What's NATO and how does it works?
Nato stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Nato was created in 1949 by the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations to provide collective security against the Soviet Union. It consists of 30 countries from Europe and North America.
NATO's Article No. 5's rules:-
Article No. 5 of NATO says if the 30 NATO countries attack a country it's fine but if anyone attacks one of these 30 countries, the whole NATO countries will attack that particular country. According to the NATO rule, the NATO countries can exchange the military anytime.
What is the UN doing in this matter?
UN stands for United Nations, they don't have any role in this matter because their Article No. 7. According to UN's Article no. 7 says, Two countries should not fight with each other but if a small part of any country wants freedom then they can be independent to become a separate country only if any other country helps it. Article 7 says one country can help another with the military if they are willing to be a separatist.
So how Russian government used the UN as a superpower?
Donetsk and Luhansk are the border areas between Ukraine and Russia, where a small percentage of people call themselves Russians and think they belong to Russia. This led them to strike to have a special country.
On 21st February 2022 Russian president announced two independent countries as Luhansk people's republic and Donetsk people's republic using article 7 of the united nation.
On 23rd February 2022, the independent countries wrote a letter to the Russian president that we need the help of the military, and the Russian president immediately supported them. According to UN'S article 7, this is called a special military operation, not a war.
Russia's Demands to back out from the war situation:-
1) Ukraine needs to give in written form that they will never join NATO in the future.
2) NATO has to remove its military forces from Estonia Latvia Lithuania soon.
3) America has to withdraw nuclear bombs from European countries.
Russia's Concern:-
The country is all covered by European countries and NATO countries which causes a threat to their security as they think this country will attack them in the future.
Ukraine's Concern:-
Ukraine is defending itself from the attack. They are fighting to save their country, their future lives, and their security.
Conclusion:-
The situation is getting worse because of which Ukrainian citizens' lives are affecting the most. Hope everything gets better without getting into World War 3.
