Importance of hygiene for a good health

Hygiene is very important, as it helps to prevent you and your children from getting or spreading germs and diseases. 

Hygiene is very important because it prevents you from infection of germs and infectious diseases. The germs that cause many diseases can be passed on through touching other people, getting feces on your hands, handling contaminated food, or coming into contact with dirty surfaces or objects.

Your body:

Try to take bath or shower daily to save yourselves from diseases. Wash well, especially under your underarm and beneath the belly. Regular hygiene will save your skin from irritations and remove bacteria that cause body odor. Wash with soap, and shower gel. Soap can remove more germs, but you may need to wash sensitive body parts with plain water or salt water. If the clean tap water is not available to clean yourself with a clean wet cloth.

Your hands:

Hands are a major source of transfer of germs from one person to another, so washing hands is necessary after doing each task. You should wash your hands by using bath soap and dry them with a clean towel or warm air dries it. You should use sanitizer to sanitize your hands.    

Your Mouth:

For a healthy mouth and smile, it is recommended by the American Dental Association to clean the mouth for 2 minutes at least twice a day. Once before breakfast and once before bed, people should prefer fluoride toothpaste for their teeth and replace the toothbrush every 3–4 months.

Your nails:

Always use sanitized tools to short the nails. It is one of the best ways to ensure that no dirt can collect underneath them. Make sure the complete cleanliness of the underside of the nails with a nail brush can form part of a person’s handwashing routine.

Your genitals:

People who have not been circumcised should pull the upper skin and wash it thoroughly with soap and warm water.

Women can gently wash the delicate skin around the vulva with a soap-free wash or plain water. The perfumed soap and bath products should be avoided as these may irritate the sensitive skin of the vulva. 

During menstruation, wash your vulva regularly. Pads can be changed after every 3 to 4 hours. The pad should not be left for a long time as it can cause toxic shock syndrome and multiple times usage should be avoided. Change sanitary pads several times a day. Wash your hands before and after changing pads.

What will be happened if hygiene will be ignored?

If hygiene will be ignored, then the following issues can be faced;

Infectious diseases, diarrhea, body odor due to lack of cleanliness, trachoma, itching due to excess dirt on the body, bad breath due to lack of regular cleaning of teeth, by keeping the nails short will help to avoid the spreading of bacteria.

Focus on children's hygiene

Parents should concentrate on children’s hygiene because it is their responsibility to coach them on personal hygiene. Children will find out about hygiene and this practice will keep them clean. The guardian should also advise their children to start out using toothpaste to brush their teeth after they reach the age of 1 year. When the gaps between a child’s teeth close, it's important to begin flossing.

Encouraging children to assist clean themselves as soon as they're sufficiently old may be a great way to instigate a correct personal hygiene routine.
