What is HMPV?
Five years after covid-19, China reports a surge in Human Metapneumo virus (HMPV) , a respiratory virus. HMPV causes symptoms like cough, fever, sore throat and wheezing and can lead to pneumonia or brochitis, especially in children or immunocompromised individuals.
Cases in India
India have been reported several cases. The virus spreads through respiratory droplets, peaks in winter and spring, and is managed through symptom treatment. The Indian government reassures no unusual surge in cases. In India there have been seven cases that have been detected in various states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra. There are also other major states across the country have issued Health advisories. The Union Health Minister has said that there is no cause for concern yet that HMPV is endemic to India but at the same time we cannot throw caution to the wind and that all precautions must be taken.
HMPV Symptoms

HMPV Treatment
There is no specific treatment or vaccine available for HMPV. The treatment is depends on the severity of the infection. Still in cases, rest, drinking plenty of water, supplement oxygen and fluids, medications to manage fever and nasal congestion are sufficient.

- Keep your immunity strong through healthy habits.
Conclusion
Human Metapneumo virus (HMPV) is a significant respiratory illness particularly for young children, older adults and those with compromised immune systems. Given the lack of specific treatment or vaccines for HMPV, understanding it's symptoms and prevention can help to reduce its spread. And with the preventive strategies we can protect ourselves and others from HMPV infections, especially during peak seasons.
