What is hemorrhoids

Introduction

Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are an incredibly common medical condition and yet it is something that is rarely talked about. It is thought that 50% of Americans have the condition by the time they reach the age of 50, and yet only 500,000 of these people seek medical help for this problem. Of these, between 10 and 20% require surgery to remove hemorrhoids.

The veins in piles ****** and **** become swollen and swollen. The location of hemorrhoids can be internal or external and its symptoms vary. If hemorrhoids are internal, they may go undetected because pain receptors are not present internally. The only evidence of a problem ***** may be blood in the movements as they pass through the area. External hemorrhoids are widely considered to resemble a bunch of grapes and can be extremely painful for the sufferer. Of the two types, it appears that internal hemorrhoids are the better of the two as you may not even know it. However, external hemorrhoids can be easily treated, while internal hemorrhoids, if left untreated, can lead to more serious complications.

If an internal hemorrhoid becomes severely distended over time it can be pushed out of the **** and therefore become visible externally. This is very unpleasant because it means that the internal passage is obstructed, making ***** movements difficult and painful to pass. This is called prolapsed piles. Once this happens, it is quite normal to have cramping in the **** and the sphincter can then trap the enlarged hemorrhoid outside the body. This then blocks the blood supply from reaching it and it becomes a strangulating hemorrhoid.

Causes of hemorrhoids

The causes of hemorrhoids can be due to genetic predisposition or environmental factors. Some people are born with weak nerves in their ***** and so there is little they can do to prevent this from happening. However, for others there are more widespread reasons behind the condition.

Pregnancy is widely accepted to increase the prevalence of hemorrhoids. The problem of excessive stress can arise during childbirth itself. This can also happen when pushing hard while in the bathroom by force. This can be prevented by increasing fiber in the diet, increasing your water intake, and reducing diuretic drinks. A diuretic usually contains caffeine and it actually dehydrates the body through fluid intake. It is also recommended that you do not sit on the toilet longer than necessary, for example if you are studying in the bathroom. The position in which you sit on the toilet can also aggravate the problem.

Treatments for hemorrhoids

Many people find that an outbreak of hemorrhoids can be treated by adopting the same habits as I recommended to prevent them in the first place. Topical creams are also available that can soothe the area and encourage a reduction in inflammation. Once the swelling subsides, hemorrhoids are able to return to the body. However, if these treatments do not work within a few days, or you experience hemorrhoids for a long time or regularly, you should seek medical attention from your doctor.
