Exercise is any activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and well-being.[1]

It is done for various reasons, including aiding in growth and improving strength, preventing aging, developing the muscular and cardiovascular system, athletic prowess, weight loss or maintenance, improving health,[2] or simply for pleasure. Many individuals choose to exercise outside where they can gather in groups, socialize, and enhance well-being and mental health. [3] [4] [5]

In terms of health benefits, the amount of Exercise recommended depends on the goal, the type of exercise, and the individual's age. Even getting a small amount of Exercise is healthier than doing nothing.

Physical exercises are generally divided into three types, depending on their overall effect on the human body: 

Aerobic Exercise is any physical activity that uses large muscle groups and causes the body to use more oxygen than is at rest. The goal of aerobic exercise is to increase cardiovascular endurance. Aerobic exercise includes running, cycling, swimming, brisk walking, jumping rope, rowing, hiking, dancing, playing tennis, continuous training, and long walks. Distance running is included.

 

Anaerobic Exercise, which includes strength and resistance training, can strengthen, strengthen, and increase muscle mass and improve density, balance, and coordination.  Examples of strength exercises are push-ups, pull-ups, lunges, squats, and the bench press. Anaerobic Exercise also includes weight training, functional training, eccentric training, interval training, running, and high-intensity interval training that increases short-term muscle strength.

Flexibility exercises stretch and lengthen the muscles—activities such as trying help to improve joint flexibility and keep muscles flexible. The goal is to improve range of motion which can reduce the chance of injury. 

 

Physical Exercise can also include training that focuses on accuracy, agility, power, and speed.

Exercise types can also be classified as dynamic or static. 'Dynamic' Exercise such as steady running tends to lower diastolic blood pressure during Exercise due to improved blood flow. Conversely, stationary Exercise (such as weight lifting) can significantly increase systolic pressure, even momentarily, during exercise performance.

Some studies indicate that exercise may increase life expectancy and overall quality of life. [13] People who participate in moderate to high physical activity levels have a lower mortality rate than those who are not relatively physically active. [14] Average levels of Exercise have been associated with preventing aging by reducing inflammatory potential. [15]

 

Most benefits from Exercise are achieved with approximately 3500 metabolic equivalents (MET) minutes per week, with diminishing returns at higher activity levels. [16] For example, 10 minutes of stair climbing, 15 minutes of vacuuming, 20 minutes of gardening, 20 minutes of running, and 25 minutes of daily walking or bicycling for transportation together would achieve approximately 3000 MET minutes a week. [16] Lack of physical activity causes around 6% of coronary heart disease, 7% of type 2 diabetes, 10% of ****** cancers, and 10% of colon cancers worldwide. Overall, physical inactivity causes 9% of premature mortality worldwide.
