In general the aims of health education in schools are as follows:
(a) Health awareness – The main objective of health education is to make students aware of health. In schools, they are given proper knowledge about health, so that they can make a valuable contribution in the upliftment of the country by becoming healthy citizens.
(b) Development of health habits - After giving information about the importance of health, developing health habits in them is also the main objective of health education; Because knowledge of any subject is useless until it is applied. Under this, complete information is provided to the students about personal cleanliness and hygiene.
(c) Providing first aid information- The purpose of health education is also to provide first aid information to the students. Under this, the students are taught the principles of first aid as well as various situations; For example, first aid information is given on accidents like snake bites, burns, broken bones etc.
Such accidents can happen anywhere, anytime and with anyone and the life of the person can be in danger. Knowledge of first aid proves to be quite beneficial in this situation.
(d) Providing information about diseases – The purpose of health education is also to give information about the main diseases to the students, so that they can be helpful in maintaining the health of their family and the people around them.
Importance of health education
“A healthy mind resides in a healthy body.” According to this statement it is essential for the students to be healthy; Because only a healthy student can take enthusiastic interest in all the activities of the school. An unhealthy student cannot acquire complete knowledge, nor can he progress on the path of progress.
Health education provides information to the student about the fundamental principles related to health, following which the student can lead a happy life by adopting healthy habits and ideology.
The other main importance of health education are as follows-In schools, teachers give information about health and health science to the students through various books, charts, pictures, models, films and slides under the subject of health education, which proves helpful in protecting the students from diseases.
Healthy habits are developed in the students through health education received in schools; For example, taking a walk in the morning, eating a healthy balanced diet, keeping hands and nails clean, wearing clean clothes, brushing teeth daily, keeping your surroundings clean, putting the garbage in the garbage can, etc.
On the basis of health education received in schools, students can be successful in detecting physical deformities in themselves and other people; For example, stuttering, stuttering, lack of self-confidence, trouble seeing, etc. By recognizing these deformities and by proper treatment, they are also helpful in getting them corrected soon.
Health education received from schools makes students aware of complete cleanliness and clean environment.
Health education also helps in establishing good human relations. Teachers tell students how they can work for the good health of their friends, neighbours, relatives and the community. Teachers also teach students how to coordinate between school, home and society.
Through the health education received in schools, the student gives courage to be patient and fight in adversity, so that he can save someone's life by providing the right first aid in a critical situation.
On the basis of health education, the student can remove the delusional thoughts and superstitions of the patient by knowing about various diseases and can be helpful in providing proper counseling and treatment to him.
The knowledge of proper education, instruction, self-realization and health education of teachers infuses service-spirit in the student.
