Let us know in detail-

What is a headache?

Headache is pain occurring in any part of the head. Headaches can occur on one or both sides of the head. It starts from one point in the head and spreads to the whole head or starts happening at a particular place.

This headache can appear as a sensation of headache or mild pain in the head. Headaches can occur gradually or suddenly and can last from 1 hour to several days.

There are two types of headache - primary headache and secondary headache.

Primary headaches include tension, cluster, and migraine headaches.

Secondary headaches include rebound and thunder flap headaches, stress headaches, caffeine headaches, etc.

Headache symptoms and treatment

Headache due to tension-

Headaches due to stress are experienced throughout most of us live. Anxiety presents itself as pain. The pain grabs your head slowly and gets worse with time. It seems that you have a significant burden on your head. Like someone is squeezing your head. The pain can be constant and affect either side of your head like a tight band.

Even the pain can make your neck muscles feel sore. The pain can be all over your head or just one side or the back of your head. Pain in your neck can also have an effect.

This pain may stay with you for a while or even for several hours, but tension headaches are usually not severe, and most of the time, you can do whatever you are doing.

Causes and Triggers of Tension Headache-

When you feel stressed, it feels like your pain is coming from your head. However, the source of the pain is believed to be muscular tension. Involve all the muscles in your face, neck, and around your head. When muscles are tense, substances called prostaglandins are released at the site of injury. Prostaglandins stimulate pain receptors which in turn make you feel pain in and around that area.

Can Multiple Triggers Be Connected to the Cause of Strained Muscles?

* Stress and anxiety make you anxious and tighten your muscles.

You may experience pain in the neck, head, and face as a result of poor posture.

* Constantly staring at your computer screen can strain and cause pain in the muscles of your face, neck, and head.

* When you are tired, your muscles may experience pain and tension.

* Loud noises, smells, and dehydration can cause tension and muscle pain.

Tension headache treatment-

Treatment may focus on stopping the production of prostaglandins when you put pressure on your muscles. You take the advice of a doctor. Try to get rid of the work that has caused you stress.

cluster headaches-

Cluster headaches are infrequent. This happens to very few people. Only 1-2 out of 1000 people suffer from this type of headache. They can be more painful and dangerous than migraines. Men are more prone to cluster headaches than women, and it is more common among chain smokers.

Cluster headaches are experienced in groups or "clusters." Headaches occur one to eight times each day over several weeks or months. The headache usually starts at night, mostly an hour or two after suffering. After waking up with this type of headache, a sufferer may not experience a headache for a while.

How does a cluster headache feel?

Sharp pain is felt around and behind one eye. For many victims, it is the same side every time. But for others, it may be different, sometimes left, sometimes right. But always on one side.

Cluster headache pain comes on immediately. It peaks within 5 to 10 minutes and lasts 30 to 60 minutes at that level. It can go on for a long time, but not for three to four hours. The pain stops suddenly, and the sufferers get significant relief.

People suffering from cluster headaches feel very agitated and anxious during an attack. They are entirely unaware of how to handle the situation, as the pain is so severe. They may need to move up and down in an attempt to tolerate the pain better. Victims can go to extremes to deal with the pain and make it a comfortable way to restore it.

If the pain itself was not intense enough, a cluster headache brings with it its own set of symptoms. It could be a blocked or runny nose, usually just one nostril, red-eye or swollen eyelids on the side of the sore area, and sometimes a surprisingly sweaty face?

Causes and triggers of cluster headaches-

The exact cause of cluster headache is still in research mode. However, it is heavily linked to the part of the brain called the hypothalamus, which plays an essential role in connecting the body's nervous system to other bodily functions. There is some genetic reason, as there are 1 in 20 family members who suffer from this pain.

Alcohol is one of the factors that trigger the pain of cluster headache, especially during the period of cluster headache. One is requested not to consume alcohol. Other triggers include the smell of petrol and paint fumes etc. Being overexposed, smoking and exercising are other well-recognized triggers. Hence it is highly advised that you stop smoking or at least reduce it.

Cluster headache treatment and prevention methods-

Regardless of the timing of cluster headaches, medicines that provide quick relief are the most preferred. Even inhaled oxygen can give you much-needed relief, but it needs to be prescribed by doctors, and for practical reasons, it may only be available to use at home.

In the case of migraines, preventive treatments are available for cluster headaches. It can be bought once only if prescribed by the doctor.

migraine headache-

Migraine headache, commonly known as a "migraine," is a common form of headache. If you don't suffer from the ongoing pain, you probably know of someone who does. About one in five women and one in fifteen men are known to suffer from migraines.

You will experience migraines in the form of severe throbbing pain in the front or sides of your head and usually affect one side of your head. But, for some, it is not just about feeling pain in and around the head. Migraines generally have a wide range of symptoms.

These include being sensitive to light or sound. People suffering from migraines or "migraines" may feel toxic and even vomit between migraine attacks.

Migraine has four distinct phases-

Aura Phase- This may or may not happen but can be a warning sign.
Headache phase.
Resolution phase - where the pain goes away or stops suddenly.
Recovery period – This can last for hours or even days and is known as a "hangover" type of feeling.
There is a possibility of suffering from migraines with or without aura. There is also the possibility of aura and other symptoms associated with a migraine - but without the headache. Such cases are defined as silent migraines.

Causes and triggers of migraine-

Migraines can be triggered by abnormal brain activity, which temporarily affects nerve signals, chemicals, and blood vessels in your brain. It is likely to be related to genes that respond to specific triggers.

Few migraine sufferers know what triggers their migraine and how to avoid it. But again, there are many possibilities, and these vary widely between each victim. Certain food products, less sleep, and hormonal changes can trigger migraines. Some migraine sufferers should write in a diary what their possible triggers could be.

Migraine treatment-

Many treatments can help migraine sufferers. These may include pain relief medication, which focuses on stopping attacks before they start. However, most sufferers will need to take acute medicines as soon as they feel that the migraine is about to begin. Painkillers can be administered after taking permission from the doctor.

Migraine sufferers may also need to take anti-inflammatory medication to relieve pain. Ice packs, hot water bottles, and applying pressure on the pulse points on the body can also be beneficial in the case of some victims.

sinus headache-

Sinuses are the cavities present behind your chin, eyes, and nose. Sinus headaches are the result of swollen sinuses and a build-up of mucus. This causes pressure in the cavities, which turns into pain. For those who are suffering, the headache becomes more severe in the morning. The reason is that mucous drainage is poor at night, so more mucus is eliminated over time.

What does a sinus headache feel like?

Victims feel tenderness in the area around their face and a headache in the forehead above their eyes. It is usually coupled with pulsing pain, which gets worse the more you move around. There is also the possibility of swelling in your face, blurred vision, and you may feel lethargic. Excessively accumulated mucus comes out from the nose.

What are the causes of sinus headaches?

An infection, similar to a cold or flu virus, can cause swollen sinuses. Facial pain and headache can tag along if there is a severe infection.

Other causes include allergies, nasal injury, nasal polyps, or tumors. Traveling in an airplane with a sinus condition can trigger this type of pain and headache as well. It occurs due to pressure changes in the sinus cavity due to changes in altitude when in flight.

Treatment for sinus headache-

Treatment usually focuses on the sinus infection. This can be achieved with the help of antibiotics, though they are not helpful against viral infections. Drainage of mucus can be done with the use of saline nasal spray and inhaled decongestants. A dehumidifier can help loosen mucus and thus speed up drainage. However, if the blockage in the nose is structural, then it may require surgery.

Painkillers can be used on the advice of a doctor.

Hormone headache-

Some of the headaches that women have to go through are hormone-related headaches. These may include menstrual migraines. Over 50% of women who go through the pain of migraines have noticed a connection with their period.

Women may experience hormone headaches during menstruation due to the fall in the level of the hormone estrogen. There are other hormone-related causes as well:

Some women suffer fewer headaches when taking the contraceptive pill, although other women may experience frequent headaches.

As women approach menopause, they tend to go through headaches. This can be due to more frequent periods and disruptions in the normal hormone cycle.
During pregnancy, the headache may get worse in the early weeks but usually gets better or even stops entirely in the last months of pregnancy.
Preventing and treating hormone headaches
Hormone headaches of the migraine type can be avoided by paying attention to diet, maintaining a regular sleep pattern, and keeping stress at bay.

Migraine headaches, as described above, can provide relief from pain. But the treatment should be customized to meet the individual needs of a woman. For more advice, contact your doctor if you think you may be suffering from hormone-related migraines or other types of hormone headaches.

What are the other causes of headaches?

These include excessive drinking, headaches related to flu and colds, a 'temporomandibular disorder' targeting the chewing muscles in your jaw, and obstructive sleep deprivation. A head trauma, concussion, and carbon monoxide poisoning can trigger headaches.
