What is Green Technology?
Green technology is a new branch of science that has a 'green' purpose. By green, we do not mean the color. Rather, the term refers to environmentally friendly technology.
At present, our technology is focused more on convenience than the concern for our planet. We must remember that the world has a fixed amount of natural resources, some of which are rapidly decreasing.
What are the goals of green technology?
To put it very simply, the primary goal of green technology is to meet the needs of human beings without hurting nature in any way.
We must learn to cut down on waste and production and reduce the consumption of natural resources. We can do this by changing our lifestyle. It is also important to make products that can be fully recycled or reused.
Above all, it is essential to develop new forms of energy that do not use up our limited natural resources. So, the goals of green technology are to meet the needs of society without destroying natural resources.
What are the applications of green technology in our daily life?
Green technology can be applied to our daily life in many ways. We can use it to manage solid wastes, as well as to purify air and water.
Green technology can be used to save energy, treat sewage, and for transportation. It also opens up new fields of renewable energy for everyday uses like a solar, wave, and wind energy.
Green technology can thus be applied for heating water, cooling homes, cooking and lighting. It can also be used in the manufacture of appliances like computers. Electric cars, biogas plants, and windmills are just some ways that green technology can be used.
Green technology in one form or the other is a part of our daily life. By adopting at least one of the many green technologies, we can help conserve nature's gifts for future generations.
Some Green inventions
LED bulbs/lights
LED stands for 'light-emitting diode.'A diode is an electrical component that allows electricity to flow through in only one direction. An LED is simply a diode that is designed to give off light. Since they save a lot of energy, they are definitely a green invention.
Solar cells
Solar energy, or energy derived from sunlight, is clean, green, renewables. Solar panels are used to tap this energy. The solar cells are made from silicon. When sunlight shines on a solar cell, the energy it carries blasts electrons out of the silicon and thus produces electricity.
Electric vehicles
Electric vehicles are a great way to save money and contribute towards a healthy environment. Petrol or diesel-driven vehicles produce a lot of carbon emissions that pollute the atmosphere. On the other hand, electric vehicles are cheap,non-pollutant, and completely run on electricity.
Aerogel
Aerogel is a very unusual substance. It is almost 'light as air and has the lowest density of any known solid. It was invented in 1931 by Samuel Stephens Kistler. It is the best thermal insulator on Earth.
Green technology in India
According to BBC, India is the front runner in green technology. India invested almost 10billion dollars in this area, which is the largest among any other major world economies.
