What is emotional intelligence? How to develop emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence refers to understanding emotions and controlling them as much as they need to be controlled. Daniel Goleman has said that our IQ level contributes only 20% to our success, while our emotions contribute 80%. Today we will know why this happens.
IQ – The ability to know, understand and apply the information obtained from any object or event.
E Q – The art of understanding and managing one's own or other's emotions.
Emotional intelligence is an ability in which we understand and manage our emotions. How emotionally intelligent you are, it decides how you manage your stress in daily work, how well you talk with people, how good you are on the job.
Becoming emotional intelligence means managing negative and positive emotions. We should also ignore our negative emotions at any time. Sometimes when the situation is against you when you feel lonely, and you want to cry, then you should cry because it makes you feel better. It is said that we should not get angry, no, it is wrong, if you are a human then it is simple that you will also get angry. Getting angry is not wrong but taking any decision in anger or reacting quickly on anything is wrong. An emotionally intelligent person knows how to respond to the emotions of others and if an emotion does not really warrant a response, then it is better not to respond at all.
Why is it important to develop emotional intelligence?
The way we react to any emotion, those small reactions affect our life. Before reacting to someone's emotions, think about how you would have expected them to react if you were in their place. As if you are the boss, you have to motivate your employee, then think that you yourself are an employee, then what will motivate you the most and how will this motivation affect your emotions level. An employee's motivation and confidence increases when their boss or their seniors encourage them for their work, their efforts. Just as for a student a teacher praising him is a motivation, in the same way a student appreciating his teacher for his teaching skills, getting good marks in his subject works like a booster for the teacher.
# Three practical way to develop emotional intelligence -
1) Practice Self Awareness – When you start losing your self-awareness, it seems that you are sitting on a small boat, and you want to go to the height of the sea, which is impossible because the waves push your boat back along with it. Self awareness means understanding yourself.
It has three levels – 1) What are you doing? 2) Why are you doing the work you are doing and how does that work make you feel. 3) Knowing what you don't know about yourself.
Many of us do not know why we are doing what we are doing, we are on autopilot mode 90% of our day like checking emails, checking messages in WhatsApp, running Instagram ETC. If we keep these distractions away from ourselves or use the mobile only when needed, then we reach the first stage of self-awareness. Like if you have a habit of checking mobile as soon as you wake up in the morning, then start with this small habit and change it.
2) Channelize Your Emotions Effectively- Many of us think that emotions can be controlled, but it is not so, we always react to emotions and cannot control them. No emotion is good or bad, but the reaction of any emotion is good or bad according to the situation. When we get angry on a small thing when we could have handled that thing in any other way, then it is a negative reaction, but when we get angry to protect the society or someone, then it is a positive reaction. When we use our anger for good work, it means that we have learned to manage our emotions. We should always use our emotions in the right direction, which is called "Gold Direction Behavior" in the language of psychology.
3) Recognize emotions in other – So far we have read how to manage our emotions and use them in the right direction, but now we will know why it is important to understand the emotions of others. Good bonding is necessary for a good relationship. What kind of reaction your partner expects from you in any situation and how you react affects your relationship a lot. The person in front always wants you to listen to him, when you listen to the person in front, he feels very satisfied in himself, due to which the bond of your relationship is very strong. It becomes stronger. Understanding the emotions of others
