What is Elon Musk's new satellite and what will it do?

Elon Musk's company SpaceX has recently successfully launched the GSAT-N2 satellite in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This satellite has been designed to promote high-speed broadband internet connectivity and digital video-audio transmission in remote areas of India. With its help, mobile internet facility will be available even during flight in an airplane.

What is GSAT-N2.

GSAT-N2 weighs 4700 kg and is designed for a 14-year mission. This satellite will provide internet facility at a speed of 48 Gbps, which will improve communication services in remote areas like Andaman-Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir and Lakshadweep.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, which was used for this launch, is capable of carrying up to 8300 kg in geosynchronous transfer orbit and 22,800 kg in low Earth orbit. It is 70 meters long and weighs about 549 tons. The success rate of Falcon 9 is 99%, making it a leader in reliability.

ISRO selected SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket for the launch of GSAT-N2 as India's rockets do not have the capability to launch satellites heavier than 4 tons. Earlier, India was dependent on the France-led Arianespace consortium to launch such heavy satellites. Elon Musk's SpaceX company's Starlink satellite internet service is also becoming popular around the world. Starlink aims to deliver high-speed internet to remote and internet-deficient areas of the world.

For this, Starlink does not have to lay any wires underground, nor is any mobile tower required to be installed. This is a satellite internet service that works on a lower-earth orbit based satellite system. Starlink service comes in the form of a kit, which includes a satellite dish, dish mount, Wi-Fi router and Wi-Fi booster base unit.

Starlink has an average downloading speed of 160 Mbps, although this speed may vary in different countries. Starlink plans to expand its service to more and more countries by 2025. The process of satellite internet spectrum allocation has started in India, and Starlink is expected to start its services in India soon. Starlink costs $110 per month, while $599 may have to be paid once for the hardware. Its price in India can be around Rs 7000, plus installation charges may have to be paid separately.

Starlink's competitors are companies like OneWeb, HughesNet, Viasat and Amazon, but Starlink's latency rate is low due to its series of lower-Earth orbit satellites, providing faster internet service. These initiatives of Elon Musk are revolutionizing global communications and internet connectivity, especially in areas where traditional internet services are not available or have limited access. 

What will be the function of GSAT-N2.

GSAT-N2 is an advanced communication satellite developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and launched through SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. Its main objective is to provide advanced telecommunication and internet services in remote and inaccessible areas of India. GSAT -N2 main functions and features are as follows:- 

1.This satellite is capable of transmitting data at a speed of 48 Gbps. It will help in improving the quality of broadband internet in remote areas of India (Andaman-Nicobar, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep etc.). Satellite will also provide internet facility in airplanes and sea ships. 

2. GSAT-N2 will help in improving 4G and 5G networks. It will work to increase mobile network coverage in rural and hilly areas. 

3. Will enable digital TV broadcasting in remote areas. It will improve facilities like video conferencing, online education, telemedicine (remote health services). 

4. It will provide emergency communication during floods, earthquakes, cyclones and other disasters. It will provide strong communication network to conduct relief operations.

 5. It will strengthen the Indian defense communication network. It will provide strong and secure communication services to the Army, Navy and Air Force.
