Marcello Bacci started recording voices with his tube radio in 1949. People would sometimes visit Baccy for a chance to talk with their departed loved ones. One year, two Italian priests attempted to record a Gregorian chant with their magneto phone.
However, the magneto phone kept breaking until one priest gave up. He looked up to the sky, exasperated, and called out to his dead father. To the surprise of both priests, the priest's dead father answered through the broken magneto phone.
Friedrich Jorgenson
Friedrich was a film producer, painter, and opera singer who became interested in EVPs. In his interest, he started recording birdsongs in a forest. However, when he replayed the tape, he heard his departed mother calling out to him.
This pushed Friedrich to continue recording other voices. He published two books, "Radio Contact With the Dead" and "Voices From the Universe."
Konstantin Raudive
Konstantin was a Latvian psychologist who was skeptical of Friedrich's findings. He decided to try it himself and heard many voices speaking back to him. One of these voices was allegedly his dead mother's.
From then on, more and more people started chasing disembodied voices using EVPs. One EVP researcher, Sarah Estep, claimed to have spoken with ghosts and aliens.

Find a Location
You don't have to go to a haunted location to capture ghosts. You can perform EVP sessions anywhere that has background or white noise. However, if you want to capture a ghost's voice, it may benefit you to go to a site with active haunting.
This can be more fun for thrill-seekers, especially if you're ghost-hunting with friends. Make sure there is background noise, but not enough to drown out the voices of any potential spirits.
Have a Conversation
Keep in mind that the goal of an EVP session is to have a conversation with a ghost. Don't whisper or yell; instead, speak in your normal tone. Start the session by introducing yourself.

Turn up the volume if you don't hear anything from the raw recording. However, don't turn it up too much, as doing so might distort the audio.
You can also use editing software to eliminate background noise and strengthen voices. You may need to replay the audio multiple times before you'll find anything, so be patient. Many researchers analyze the waveform to see changes in pitch and amplitude.
