SERVICES:
Lessons can include activities such as matching, translating, speaking, multiple choice, and storytelling. This feature consists of a short story for a specific situation to help students improve their reading and listening skills. Stories are available on a limited number of the most popular courses. Duolingo offers podcasts for people at the intermediate level for some languages, which consist of stories told by native speakers from various parts of the world where the target language is spoken, but with simplified grammar, vocabulary, and slower intonation, as well as occasional assistance with providing context or explanations of unusual words in the source language by a narrator. Duolingo also provides a competitive environment. People can compete against their friends or see how they compare to the rest of the world in leagues which are randomly selected groups of up to 30 users. The amount of XP earned in a week determines league rankings. In Duolingo, badges represent accomplishments earned by completing specific objectives or challenges. Duolingo has features that allow teachers to track their students' progress in language acquisition.
Model of Business:
The majority of Duolingo's language-learning features are free, but it does include periodic advertising in both its mobile and web browser applications, which users can remove by paying a subscription fee or promoting referral links. This feature is referred to as "Super Duolingo," and it includes advantages such as unlimited hearts (retries), level skipping, no ads, and progress quizzes.
Infrastructure:
Duolingo offers a single-page web application for desktop computer users as well as smartphone applications on the Android and iOS App Store platforms, with desktop users accounting for 20% of traffic and mobile app users accounting for 80%.
