What is Dogecoin? Things You Need To Know Before Investing

Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency with a fun and friendly brand image that is meant to be a supportive introduction to cryptocurrencies. Billy Marcus, a programmer from Oregon, came up with the concept of a cryptocurrency “joke” of sorts. He argues that lighter coins, not Bitcoin, have a better chance of conventional acceptance. Although Dogecoin is far from the size of Bitcoin, the currency's "joke" market cap rose from more than $1 billion in early January to $47 billion on Saturday, according to CoinMarketCap.

"Dogecoin (DOGE) is an open-source cryptocurrency based on a fork of the Litecoin code. It's called a "meme cryptocurrency." As the name suggests, it's mostly based on the Doge meme, which went viral on the internet in 2013.

On an annual basis, the token has increased by about 7,000 percent. DOGE hit a record high of $0.73 on May 8, 2021, boosted by an upbeat tweet from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Interesting facts about Dogecoin
Dogecoin is an open-source digital currency that is popular with Shiba Inus worldwide. Doge is our fun and friendly mascot!

The Shiba Inu is a Japanese dog breed that has become popular as an online meme and is associated with Dogecoin.

Dogecoin has one of the most active and largest communities in the cryptocurrency world. These groups come together to support various charities and others. They also managed to fund NASCAR competitions.

Unlike Bitcoin, Dogecoin has no upper limit, meaning there are actually over 100 billion Dogecoins in circulation.

Why is Dogecoin popular?

Dogecoin, which started as a joke, got celebrity endorsements from Elon Musk and Snoop Dog, rock musician Gene Simon raising its price.

In April, musk again expressed interest in the coin, saying, "Doge barks at the stars." Following Elon Musk's tweet, many people bought Dogecoin (DOGE) in bulk, which caused the price to rise from a 24-hour low of $0.062 to $0.078, an increase of 20%.

The main explanation for this price increase is believed to be the increase in the value of other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, which have increased the value of Dogecoin.

Musk tweeted a photo of a dust storm with a Shiba Inu dog face on the morning of April 18 as the "Dogecoin norm" billowing above the "global financial system." Musk described it as "inevitable."

DOGE's performance seems unbearable. Now that the price has hit a new high, the meme cryptocurrency has temporarily replaced the payment-oriented XRP as the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

An odd combination of factors, including Elon Musk's approval of the coin and overwhelming support from merchant Robinhood, propelled Dogecoin into the mass flow. DOGE's liquidation hit Bitcoin (BTC) at some point during the market mania, indicating high demand for the asset. DOGE's Twitter activity briefly surpassed the leading cryptocurrency at the start of the year.
