Destiny is something which is already written by our choice and freewill. It is something which is in our hands, and it's your choice whether to do something right or wrong whether you take an opportunity or lose it, all depends on you. God has written the destiny in a Preserved Tablet. Now, the question arises what is freewill and are we destined to perform our actions ? And if yes, then why we are supposed to do actions if it’s all written by God?
We all are responsible for our actions and deeds. We do such actions to fulfil our desires, whether it is good for us or it has bad influence. We make choices in our daily life. This is what we call freewill. Everything is predestined, doesn’t mean that we should not perform actions and just wait for destiny to decide. We never know what is written and what's not, so we should keep focusing on our freewill. Let me give you some example, suppose if Zaid killed someone, and he says that his or her death was at my hands, and it's already written that he will die at a certain age, so in that way he is not supposed to be punished. Then, we will say it is also destined that he will be punished for his crime. Killer’s statement wouldn’t be accountable because murderer didn’t have any knowledge that it is predestined or not, after an action he came to know that it is written and that is the test, only God knows everything His knowledge is complete we as a Human don’t know that either we go to hell or heaven we just have to do deeds and wait for the results. If we do good deeds we will go to heaven and if we do bad deeds we will go to hell, that means our actions decide our future.
“Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion; and He over all things hath Power; He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving.” (67:1-2).
Sometimes, people misinterpret destiny and fate together, they are related to each other making slightly different meanings. Someone who puts their beliefs on destiny has to believe in fate. Fate is unchangeable, without any freewill and which is divinely planned. Events will occur without any human involvement. Something which is not in our control such as time of death, place of death, place where we were born, features and physical appearance etc. So, there is no point in complaining about it in which you are not responsible for. A person is not the master of his own fate, nor bound to the blind law of predestination. Without Allah’s Will not even a leaf stirs.
It is His Will that prevails everywhere. To God belongs the sovereignty of Heavens and the Earth. He created what He pleaseth, giving to whom He pleaseth females and to whom He pleaseth males or conjoining them males and females, and He maketh whom He pleaseth barren, verify He hath knowledge and power (xlii. 48).
Anything good or bad happens, is it predestined or does our actions cause such consequences? When something bad happens we say it is our bad luck and when something good happens we say it is our good luck. What makes our luck good or bad? Our actions or God wills?. Some people are rich and some poor, some people have good health and some suffer from illness. Some people work so hard to achieve something and they get what they wish for and in rare cases some didn't get what they wishe for in spite of hard work.There maybe two cases either the person who had putted so much efforts to become rich, achieved his dreams or the person who didn't put so much efforts but still becomes rich, it is God will. It is Allah’s bounty that he gives to whomsoever He wills, and Allah is the Lord of the great bounty. Some people are poor instead of working so hard like Labors.
God tests us by giving poverty, wealth, children to find out who among us passes the test? So, we should be patient and have faith in God.
Say, “Nothing will ever befall us except what Allah has destined for us. He is our Protector.” So in Allah let the believers put their trust. (Quran 9:51)
On the other hand, Can something bad happens because of our own actions?. Well, as a human we make a lot of mistakes, and then we begin to blame our fate that it all happens because of our bad luck instead of acknowledging our own mistakes. So, we should look upon ourselves before blaming on our fate.
Most of the people tend to ask, ``Why is the world so evil, even God is controlling everything? The cause of evil in this world results from the actions or interaction of various agents such as nafs, devil and freewill. God commands us to do righteous deeds and prohibit bad deeds and evil, still most of the humans do wars, killings, stealing etc. And disobeying God by their freewill.
“Seek the life to come by means of what God granted you, but do not neglect your rightful share in this world. Do good to others as God has done good to you. Do not seek to spread corruption in the land, for God does not love those who do this” (Quran, 28:77).
In addition, God has appointed the Day of Judgement, in which He will reward us for good deeds and obeying him and punish those who has done evils in the world. This shows the importance of freewill in our lives.
What is the benefit of believing in fate? When you know that whatever the pens have written before the creation of this whole universe is good for you and when you keep your faith in, that everything is in God's hand, in that way your belief in God becomes more firm and you will be satisfied with what has been planned for you is better than what you wanted. So, that's the beauty of divinely planned things it gives you inner peace and hope when something bad happens to you and you put your efforts still things don't work out, in that case you should be patient and think that it was all predetermined. It relieves stress and build your personality even more strong. Let the creator decides what's best for you.
Abdullah bin Abbas said that:
“When we establish divine decree, we establish Tawheed.”
