What is Dengue Fever Symptoms and causes

Symptoms

Dengue is a tropical disease that afflicts people worldwide. It is an acute infectious disease that occurs when the Andes mosquito bites or spreads blood from its victims to others.

This bite causes a temporary rash to appear on a person’s face, the palms of their hands, in the genital area and other parts of the body. In rare cases, it can cause severe complications of the virus’s effect.

During this process, Aides  (commonly known as the red-legged mosquito) produces an extremely toxic saliva containing dengue viruses (DV). The virus found in the saliva is transmitted via mosquitoes during the daytime bite.

People infected with these viruses may develop flu-like symptoms including fever, sore throat, muscle and joint pains, nausea and vomiting.

Drinking plenty of fluids during the first 3 days after being bitten with an infected mosquito or having contact with someone who has been exposed to an infected mosquito is essential for the recovery of any case of dengue fever. These fluids are commonly called antimalarial medicines.

They contain sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, potassium sorbate, hydrogen peroxide, Boris chloride, magnesium carbonate, calcium chloride and salts. Drinking one liter or more of water throughout the recovery is recommended.

Some of the common signs of an infection include; chills, tiredness, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, weakness, abdominal pain, and high temperature.

However, these symptoms could be early signs of another condition or simply be caused by the treatment provided to the patient.

The symptoms of dengue are similar to those of several other viral infections such as influenza, measles, chickenpox or herpes.

To treat an individual with dengue, doctors use antiviral drugs, which contain Riboviria, (Roxy),  As antiviral agents, they help destroy various viruses within the body.

Doctors also recommend using cold packs, cold therapy (shivering), oral rehydration solutions (ORS), intravenous fluids and aspirin. If the person lives with someone who has recently recovered, he/she should also seek medical aid immediately for further treatment.

Other than antiviral medication, doctors recommend taking antihistamines, warm compresses, acetone baths, drinking plenty of fluids, wearing protective clothing and observing proper hygiene. One possible complication of the disease is meningitis — inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spine.

Meningitis also exists in some cases related to rashes in the legs and groin area during the infection period. Another complication of dengue fever is malaria (malaria).

Malaria is often seen in children under 5, but adults could also develop this disease if not treated correctly.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of dengue can be difficult because it is very similar to many conditions.

There is no specific test for the infection itself, but the doctor will diagnose it by making sure that you have all the following symptoms: fever (100.4 degrees F), aching, swollen glands, headache and muscle and joint pains, nausea or vomiting, joint tenderness, and skin rash, among others.

The major symptom that shows up is Dengue Infection — a painful lesion in the skin that appears three.5 days after a mosquito bite, although this can take 2 to 3 weeks.

Also, Dengue Infection also manifests itself through high fevers lasting 4 to 10 days, abdominal pain or tenderness, and dark urine.

Dengue can manifest itself over a long time with long-lasting and persistent lesions on the skin that last up to 6 months.
