What is Data Science? From Where Should I Pursue Data Science? and How to Become a Successful Data Scientist?

Data Science

Digital technologies are booming. At the same time, the amount of information in the world is increasing. About 2.5 quintals of trillion bytes of data are generated a day in the world digitally. This is where the need for a new field of study called data science comes into play. Data science is a growing field with statistics for data analysis using digital technology. There are endless possibilities in this category in the future.

According to IBM, ninety percent of the data we see today originated in the last two years. Then there is no doubt that the increase in data in the coming years will be in the form of exponential theory. Financial services such as meteorological studies, meteorology, agricultural research, health research, business, online commerce (e-commerce), various modes of transport, communications, space projects, various sensors, numerous mobile phones, website logs, banking, and insurance have huge data sets that may be analyzed and drawn insights to reveal trends, pattern, etc. These large data sets are known as Big Data

Timely analysis of Big Data will be required for accurate planning and effective implementation in all of the above areas. Large-scale variations and increases in short-term intervals can be expected in Big Data. In a competitive sector like business, there will be a situation where decisions have to be made and implemented as soon as possible.

It takes computer experts to collect and store big data and statisticians to analyze and visualize it. In addition, international networks consisting of multiple computers and software to manage will require experts trained in data analytics accordingly. In any field where the decisions from the Data Analytics class have to be implemented, there will be a situation where the experts from that field will have to work together to carry out the projects. In this case, those who have studied data science, trained in data analytics will have a well-paying job.

Which are the fields included in Data Science?

  • Machine learning
  • Data mining processes
  • Computer programming languages such as Python
  • Software such as Hadoop
  • MapReduce and tableau for visualizing data.

The analytics sector is expected to create around one lakh jobs in India in the next few years.

Where to Study?

There are opportunities to study data science or analytics at various institutions as a full-time course and an online executive program. It is envisioned as a postgraduate diploma syllabus to master
most of the analytics.
These are some of the important institutions that specialize in data analytics;

  •  IIM Bangalore
  •  IIIT Bangalore
  •  Coimbatore Institute of Technology
  •  ISI Kolkata
  • IIT Kharagpur, IIM Kolkata, and ISI Kolkata jointly conduct a two-year Post Graduate Diploma Course in Business Analytics as a classroom method and online.

In addition, many private institutes offer postgraduate diploma courses of three months to one year in classroom style and online. These include XLRI, Jamshedpur, SP Jain Management School Mumbai,

Rewa University Bangalore, IIDT, Tirupati and Manipal Higher Education Academy.

So, in conclusion, as the network expands, the job opportunity for a Data Scientist or Data Analyst also expands simultaneously.
