What Is CPU? A Detailed Article.

CPU is called the Central Processing Unit. It is the most important part of the computer. It is also called the brain of the computer. It is mounted on the motherboard with a cooler attached to it.

Speed of CPU.

The speed of the CPU is known as clock speed. The computer is essentially composed of tiny devices that can be put on or off to indicate 1 or 0. To synchronize the change of all these components, the CPU uses an internal clock. With every ‘ticks’ of this clock, all switches that need to change their position do so in perfect harmony. The larger number of ‘ticks’ per second, the faster the speed of the CPU. Its speed is measured in megahertz and gigahertz. 1 MHz = 1 million ‘tick’ per second. 1GHz =1000 MHz. The higher the clock speed faster the computer.

Cores and Threads.

Cores are actual hardware component while threads are virtual components which divides the physical core of a CPU into virtual multiple cores. A single core can have up to 2 threads per core.

Like, A single core can have 1 or 2 threads, A dual-core can have 2 or 4 threads, A quadra core can have 4 or 8 threads, A Hexa core can have 6 or 12 threads, An octa-core can have 16 threads, And so on 16, 32,64,…More the cores more work accomplished in a short period of time. Example: Running multiple programs at the same time. More the threads more the improvement of computation speed up. Example: Running an operating system on Virtualbox

Difference between CPU and APU.

In CPU processors, it is highly processable because a dedicated graphics card is needed to see the display on a monitor. It has a separate cooling system and separate RAM. Example AMD Ryzen 3 3100 , Intel I3 10100F,etc

TThe APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) processor is not highly processable because some part of the RAM and cooling system is consumed by the Integrated Graphics(IG),, which is the inbuilt graphics included in the processor leading to slow performance and heat up. Example: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, Intel I3 10100,etc

CPUs VS APUs.

If a PC has 4 cores and 8 threads CPU processor and other having with same cores and threads APU processor, Then the first one will perform much better than the second one because it is free to use the whole RAM while the second one has to spare a part of RAM to the IG for functioning.

Another main factor that CPUs are better than APUs is the price. The price of APUs is much greater than CPUs.

AMD is the king Now.

As of today’s date, two main companies manufacture processors. They are INTEL and AMD. In the Long run of the manufacture of processors, Intel had been the Boss for the manufacturing of processors, but AMD has achieved a big lead against Intel in the past few years. It has recently launched ZEN ZEN 2 architecture of & nanometer While Intel is still lagging behind 14 nanometers on Kaby Lake Sky Laker.

[ Shorter the distance of architecture faster the processor is and will consume less electric power ]

Differentiate between the INTEL and AMD processors.

For a processor to be mounted on the motherboard, grooves and holders are necessary. This difference between the two companies takes place.

For the Intel processor, the motherboard has to have an LGA socket where the grooves are present in the motherboard, and the holders are present in the processor So, the motherboard’s socket should be handle with ultra-care.

But for AMD, the motherboard has to have an AM4 socket where the grooves are present in the processor, and the holders are present on the motherboard So, the processor should be handle with ultra-care.
