Ron would be the first to tell you that his writing life has not always been thus. For 17 years he taught five or six classes a semester at Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, SC, and yet managed to write a stream of poems and stories. It took two decades of steady work before the publication of his first novel.
When I committed to the 52-Week Writing Challenge through The Writing Cooperative in January, I had already made some big life changes— I had quit my teaching job at the two-year college where I worked in South Carolina, and my son and I moved to join my husband in North Carolina, where he had been working since August.
I think it's fair to say that my career evolved gradually. When I began my academic life it very much followed the traditional route of PhD, postdoctoral research, at University College London then Surrey, then I secured a five-year research fellowship after which I became a full time (tenured) academic lecturer and moved up the academic ranks to professor by teaching and conducting research in my field of theoretical physics. I did all the usual stuff of publishing my research, attending conferences and applying for grants.
Some writers have no personal experience with the story's subject, but they have professional experience. For example, if I were interested in writing about voting rights for people convicted of felonies, I could cite my legal education and experience as relevant to my ability to research the legislative histories of state laws that limit voting rights.
How does someone make the move to providing digital education? By looking at their needs, they may select from: Live Web-Streaming of Classes, On-Demand Education, and Self Study Option. Much of these options can be provided through the implementation of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and managed using Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS). For more specialized circumstances, like equipment training or simulations, one may look to Interactive Installations, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and custom 3D Software.
Art education is very important in schools and the above literature supports why art education is necessary. Art is all around us, and creating art allows children to envision and understand the world on a different level in ways that are not discusses other content areas. Removing art in schools would take away a child's opportunity to learn creatively and expressively. Art educators play an important role to inspire children and guide creativity, growth, and understanding the world.
I wasn't enrolled in an art program at the University of Iowa, I was a doctoral student of Feminist Anthropology and Gender Studies. I graduated with PhD that it is virtually useless. I can't even teach composition at a community college because I don't have the right credits. (Are you thinking of getting a PhD in Women's Studies? Please don't.) Robots didn't take over my job — they can't teach Gender Studies or English or Philosophy, but this country doesn't seem to care very much about education anymore. Over half of all faculty appointments are now "contingent" (read: part-time and non-tenure track).
Dr. Bernstein: "…The low level of investment in young children in my view directly connects to the imbalance in access and completion of higher education. This starts with early childhood education. There is no bigger policy mistake we make in this country then in under-investing or hardly investing at all. This is not a conservative or liberal result. … We are talking about helping people get to college. To me, that's breaking down an opportunity barrier. "
