It slows the absorption just slows it down a little, so it's a smoother effect if you take it on an empty stomach that it can come on too quickly in a sense, and it can make you feel a little faint or dizzy so if you notice a lot of dizziness after you take your dose you maybe want to evaluate whether you're taking that was food some common side effects we can see with Carvedilol dizziness erectile dysfunction low blood pressure like we just touched on especially if you're feeling faint or dizzy you really got to watch out for that weight gain beta blockers are associated with weight gain if that seems to become an issue be sure you chat with the doctor about it cold arms and legs the extremities can feel cold other side effects we can see bronchospasm diarrhea high blood sugar difficulty breathing headache depression nausea as well as other side effects can occur and some rare and serious side effects that we can see some heart failure issues you know this medicine is used in folks who have some serious heart conditions to start with, so hopefully we would be monitoring heart that all the time and watching for these side effects liver toxicity monitored with labs typically severe rash if you get a real you know a really bad rash you'd want a CIG medical attention right away other side effects can occur what about Carvedilol and diabetes, so we touched on the weight gain we talked a little, but how it can affect blood sugar levels it can also mask.
The symptoms of low blood sugar beta blockers can hide some of those telltale signs you know like the shakiness and the sweetness that occurs when your blood sugar drops too low so if your diabetes is not under control you want to use caution you want to monitor those blood sugar levels and just watch out for those and the weight gain can also increase problems of diabetes of course because if your blood sugars not under control you can put on weight and cause your diabetes to get worse if that seems to be an issue make sure you start a dialogue with the doctor or see if there's something that can be adjusted about alcohol there's no like a specific interaction with Carvedilol, but it really is best to avoid if you're having a lot of heart problems and blood pressure problems you're not going to do yourself any favors by drinking alcohol you might maybe one or two drinks per day probably be alright you should still run that by the doctor but anything beyond that your you're just going to cause yourself some problems most likely because alcohol can affect blood pressure while you're drinking the alcohol it can decrease your blood pressure and then the day after you can kind of get a rebound effect and so your blood pressure can come up, so you could set yourself up on kind of roller coaster putting yourself at risk of heart attack and stroke and again when you're consuming alcohol we want to watch out for that low blood pressure, so you'd be at risk of fainting or dizziness or falling over what about Carvedilol and asthma beta blockers can worsen asthma symptoms.
It can cause difficulty breathing and want to speak to your doctor if you notice that your breathing condition has worsened while you're on Carvedilol or if you notice that after a dosage increase you want to talk to the doctor there and see if maybe the dose can be adjusted weight gain we touched on this a little, but with the blood sugar weight gain is this all beta blockers are associated with weight gain, and you know that high blood sugar I'm sure has something to do with it that's ideal condition to put weight on your body and when you have high blood sugar it's a fat storage readily occurs but make sure you don't stop this abruptly I mean this is an important medication if you're on it, you must have a condition that warrants it, and you wouldn't want to just stop it because you've put on a few pounds you need to work with your doctor and see if they can get that weight under control or find you a different medication what about hair loss it's not very common that what it's been reported in less than 1% of people who using Carvedilol many, times medication induced hair loss will resolve when the medicine has discontinued again don't stop it abruptly talk to the doctor if you have concerns do not stop this medication abruptly you could cause yourself more problems just contact your health care provider discuss the issue, and maybe they can adjust the dose or find a different medication.
