BTS Need To Decide Which Song They’ll Submit For Grammy Consideration.

Getty Images for The Recording Academy BTS is currently on something of a break, but for a band that isn't together at the moment, they sure are releasing a lot of music. The boy band recently made a comeback with their second new single of 2023, "Take Two." Now they face a crucial decision—BTS needs to determine whether they will pursue Grammy recognition this year and, if so, which one of their songs should be submitted for consideration.
Currently, BTS has two songs eligible for Grammy voters to think about. This is not unusual, as many artists have multiple tracks in the running at the same time. That said, it presents a challenge for the South Korean band because their songs will essentially compete against each other. Consequently, they must prioritize one track over the other.
Submitting two songs for consideration in the same categories could potentially split the vote. Some voters may lean towards one track, while others prefer the other. As a result, neither song may accumulate enough votes to become an official potential winner, which would be detrimental for the band.
The new single, "Take Two," is likely the song that BTS will choose to submit. It is the most recent release from the group in 2022 and has achieved greater success compared to its counterpart. The track debuted at the top of the Digital Song Sales chart, and it reached a respectable position on the Hot 100 chart, indicating its popularity among listeners.

On the other hand, the band's other single released in 2023, "The Planet," did not attain the same level of success. Nevertheless, the track still garnered a significant amount of love from fans. However, due to its limited commercial impact, chances are BTS will not select it when it comes time to submit songs for Grammy consideration. While sales and chart positions are not supposed to be determining factors in these cases, it is often harder to ignore songs with a larger impact.
Both "Take Two" and "The Planet" could potentially be nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, a category that BTS is familiar with. In the past, they have been nominated three times for this award, with their singles "Dynamite," "Butter," and their collaboration "My Universe" with Coldplay. Despite these previous chances to win, BTS has yet to secure a prize in this category.
Technically, both tracks are also eligible for Record and Song of the Year, but seeing as how BTS couldn’t snag a place in either of those categories when they had new singles out that took over the world and conquered the Hot 100 in the U.S., chances are they’re not serious contenders for those fields.

The band faced little competition on this purchase-only tally, solidifying their dominance. In its first week, “Take Two” outsold the combined sales of all other tracks within the top five. With 10,200 copies sold, Luke Combs' "Fast Car" takes the second spot, followed by Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" with 7,400 copies sold. The politically-charged "81 Million Votes, My Ass" claims the fourth spot with 5,700 copies, while Jelly Roll's "Need a Favor" rounds out the top five with 5,100 copies. BTS's new hit surpasses the runner-up more than three times over. BTS's reign on the Digital Song Sales chart has been nothing short of extraordinary. With "Take Two," the group has now secured a total of twelve No. 1 hits on this chart, the highest number among all groups in U.S. History. In the broader spectrum, when considering all acts, BTS holds in sixth place. They trail behind notable names such as Taylor Swift, who boasts 26 No. 1s, Nicki Minaj with 15, Rihanna with 14, and both Justin Bieber and Drake with 13 each.
