What is Blogging and top blogging plateforms?

Many types of blogs exist, many of them just like any other social network. For a quick review of some of the more popular blogging networks and blogging platforms, check out this article on getting Satisfaction.

For an introduction to blogging on Blogger, check out this article.

Blogging on WordPress.org

Blogger is one of the most popular blogging platforms, used by millions of people and hundreds of thousands of companies. Blogger Blogs are divided into collections: Blog Collections, Web Stories, and a couple of others I’m not completely familiar with.

Blog Collections are collections of blogs that don’t have their own dedicated page. You can’t set a topic for each blog and comment on that blog, nor can you choose a primary theme for the collection (although in some cases you can – for example, you can choose one template for the collection and then customize the theme to your liking). You can’t post to multiple collections at once.

Most Popular Blogging Platforms

If you’re not familiar with blogging, check out this article on getting Satisfaction for a brief description of blogging platforms.

Comments

Yes, there are comments on a Blogger blog. In fact, there are default comments that are displayed below each blog post. These are the same as the comments in your web browser. To change the comment interface, you’ll need to edit the blog’s settings.

Posts in Blogger are handled on a blog’s Settings page. The main page is for setting up a blog, while each post and comment is in a sub-page that appears below the main page.

When you edit a blog’s settings, you’ll also be able to change some other things, such as posting to specific blog pages and commenting. You’ll also be able to use the public_html comment upload feature.

As with some other blogging platforms, you’ll have the option to turn off comments. I’m not sure why someone would want to do this, as comments are essential for making a blog a social network, which is what it’s really intended to be. However, commenting off can be handy for those who dislike commenting. It can also be useful if you want to have separate discussions that aren’t tied to the specific posts.

You can also disable comments if you want to keep things strictly within the blog’s individual blog pages.

If you want to create your own custom “pages” in Blogger, see this article for instructions.

Public & Private Blogging

As I mentioned, blogs aren’t completely public, and that’s true for all the blogging platforms I’ve mentioned. They’re social networks after all. You can create your own private blog, but if you want your work to be visible to the public, then you need to create a public blog.

Note that some of the public blogging sites require you to register before you can create a blog.

You’ll need to sign up for the “Authorize.net Public Blogging Site”, but this is a very useful tool. It has some good options and features that will give your blog a nice, professional appearance. You can even use Twitter to give followers access to your public blog!

When you sign up, you’ll be able to create a public or private blog page. For public blogs, just go to the dashboard page, click on Settings, and click on Public. For a private blog, you’ll need to go back to the dashboard page, click on Settings, and click on Private Blog.

Other popular Blogging Platforms

Once you’ve decided which blogging platform you want to use, you’ll want to check out the following other blogging platforms:

WordPress

This is the most popular blogging platform, and the easiest way to get a blogging website up and running. I use it for my personal website, and several other people I know use it to host their own blog.

Yahoo!

This blogging platform is a lot like WordPress, but it’s easier to use and has a much larger library of themes. However, I haven’t used it much, so I don’t have a recommendation for it.

Joomla!

This is another popular platform for creating a blogging website.

Sites

It’s important to choose a blog website that’s easy to manage. There are several different ways to do this.

Hosting Platform

You can use any of the following hosting platforms to build and manage your blog. These companies help you manage your blog and integrate it with some of the most popular social media services.

EOS

EOS is an awesome blogging platform with a very polished look. I use it to create my personal website, and it makes it much easier to manage.

SEO

I recommend using this method of managing your blog. Blogging platforms have a lot of different features, but one of the most important is the blog’s SEO. If your blog is poorly written, or if it has only a few posts, then you might not get as much traffic as you would if you optimized your blog for the search engines.

Powershell

You can use this set of PowerShell commands to optimize your blog’s SEO. For more information about how to use Powershell with SEO, click here.
