What is being done against the Palestinians is beyond tolerance. This is what the former US President Barack Obama said. He also criticized the fact that information about the Gaza war is being spread one-sidedly through social media.
Israel has been carrying out indiscriminate airstrikes on the Gaza Strip for a month since the October 7 operation by Hamas. All of Gaza has been reduced to rubble. Thousands of Palestinians were killed. Most of them are women and children. As the attacks continue, the casualty numbers continue to rise.
Former US President Barack Obama spoke for the first time on Saturday (November 5) about the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel. In an interview, he said, what is being done against the Palestinians is beyond tolerance.
Besides, criticizing the way this war has been portrayed on social media, he said that neither side is innocent.
Obama expressed his views in an interview for the Pod Save America podcast. The former president also said that to take any constructive initiative, one must first understand the complex situation. It is not as simple as it seems from the outside.
He also said, 'The way innocent Palestinians are dying in Gaza has nothing to do with the activities of Hamas. Just as what Hamas is doing is unacceptable, it is also true that the ongoing occupation of Palestine and what is happening to Palestinians is intolerable.'
Earlier, in a written statement last month, Obama expressed his views on the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He warned that the strategy adopted by Tel Aviv to eliminate Hamas in Gaza could have the opposite effect.
The former president expressed concern over the massive loss of civilian life in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli army's attack on food, water and electricity supplies. Obama warned that international support and cooperation to Tel Aviv may decrease.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama made an ambitious promise to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict before becoming the US president. However, he did not fulfill that promise even though he was in office for two terms.
Currently, Barack Obama's Democratic Party is in power in the United States. And the president is his one-time political ally and former vice president Joe Biden. He is strongly supporting Israel's killings in Gaza for the past month. Not only that, he is also sending financial support for the bombs being dropped in Gaza.
UN useless: human rights lawyers
In an interview to Al Jazeera, this lawyer said, 'There is no difference between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Both are committing war crimes. Both are killing civilians indiscriminately. Still the UN is silent.'
Human rights lawyer Robertson added, 'It is not fit for purpose. The UN Security Council has become almost a chat room where only words are spoken.'
He said that the veto power is useless. Because Russia has vetoed every proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine. On the other hand, the United States vetoed a ceasefire proposal regarding Gaza last week.
Israel has been carrying out indiscriminate airstrikes on the Gaza Strip for the past month. All of Gaza has been reduced to rubble. Thousands of Palestinians were killed. Most of them are women and children. As the attacks continue, the casualty numbers continue to rise.
But the United Nations could not take any effective action to stop Israel's aggression in Gaza. Until now, the officials of the organization have only condemned the attack and called for a 'humanitarian ceasefire'.
